I'll check Leon's page of B&Bs next week.

just incase you've missed out on the important bit of the thread Sandeha (the above statment leads me to believe you may have) here is the pertinent info:-

ok - I've spoken to the manager. I'm afraid that, despite my best efforts, there are no discounts to be had - Brewery Policy apparently. So, it is still fully vacant and seems to be the best venue that I can find - and cheaper than the others so people can start to book as from now. He wouldnt reserve for bookings from me without a credit card so it's going to have to have to be first come first served. Also, if you are planning to eat there, the Manager recommends booking the dinner when you book the rooms as the restaurant gets booked up very quickly.

Theres no point looking at the Chilham B&B's I posted before as they are on teh other side of canterbury to where everyone has booked!

Not low surely, I'm looking forward to meeting her, ( and the other 1st timers) and hearing her stories of life in the journalistic fast lane.

I mis-spoke myself. My reference was to the quality of your pun ("develop"? On a trad photography forum?! That's appalling even by my (nonexistant) standards!) rather than your thought processes. My apologies.

Am I missing something...?

Ailsa, the day you miss something has not yet dawned!

I think Dave was referring to your change of status from Editor Of The Finest Photography Magazine Ever Published (a.k.a. "Ming" ) to Freelancer Of The Highest Calibre.

You have to excuse him; if Win doesn't keep him fully dosed up with cheesecake he tends to ramble...! :D

I missed off reading the thread for a while and I see that everybody has been quite productive as I had to catch up with so many posts !

About dinner 8pm is fine with me. I am assuming that I have to call back to mention the time.

Small detail tho: do you know where I booked my room ??

Also, I finally registered myself to a darkroom  I manage to do weekly sessions at the moment.

Other question: I have never had a chance to handle a rangefinder and I keep on looking enviously at Fujica and Mamiyas. I thought that the canterbury week-end would be a great opportunity to scrutinize one of them closely of any member had one.

And another question: is it ok if I bring along some old family photographs dating back to mid 19th C, as I'd like to know more on how they would had been processed and the photographs taken?

At some point we will contact the hotel and inform them of our prefered dining arrangements; for "we" read Leon
I certainly will be interested in seeing you 19th C prints, and you can play with my Mamiya 7, I think Leon and Ailsa have these as well. I suspect that a Fuji or two may be present as well.
Check back in this thread for the details of the White House Inn.
Good news about your printing, where are you doing that?

I am going to Zoom in. It is basic but they have cheap rentals, it is enough to get me started and gain printing experience.
I had checked out online the Camera club that you'd told me about. They seemed equivalent but they were further away than Zoom in.

If Dave Miller wishes for more discussion rather than haring off into the woods to snap everything that moves, shall we pray for rain? Then nobody will want to venture forth to Romney Marsh or anywhere else! The marsh can be a bleak, bleak place as the wind howls across the open spaces! I know, used to go fishing there as a boy.
Yeah, but there are some AMAZING church interiors in the Marsh. (Until 2002 I used to live about 5 miles from David Bebbington, on the coast at Minnis Bay, 13 miles from Canterbury)

Mentioning rain reminds me, here in middle England it's hot and the sun is shining - whatever happened to summer?
Indeed. It topped 30C here in The Centre Of The Universe yesterday and is expected to do the same today. Has been fine for a few days now.

I blame Global Warming... Oh no, wait, that was what I blamed for the rain... Ermm... I blame Blair... oh, hang on, he's gorn... It's all the fault of... you know - the big Scottish bloke that looks like he's trying to digest a whole pickled cucumber... Brown - that's it....

Well... I blame one of those anyway. It's obvious. Innit.

Cheers, Bob.

No, no, no... When it's very hot it's called "global warming". When it's piddling down or we get a hard winter then it's called "climate change".

Try and keep up!

Delphine - To save you going back through the thread (and for anyone else who needs it!) here are the contact details for the hotel again

website:- http://www.whitehorsecanterbury.co.uk
phone number:- 01227 751343

Do please bring the old prints. I'd love to see them.

It might also make up for my portfolio; at this rate I'll be showing more repeats than UKTV Gold!

hi everyone - regarding dinner. As I posted originally, the landlord said he'd like to take individual bookings when you book your room as the restaurant is popular and fills quickly. He wasnt willing to take a large mass booking from me I'm afraid so you'll need to book individually.

I've just got an email back from the White Horse:

"Good afternoon,

I can confirm your booking for the 5th and 6th of October.

There has been a table booked for you all for those evenings.

we look forward to seeing you in October.

Many Thanks

Sharon Williams"

Does this mean that anyone who has booked a room has also been booked in for dinner?

Hi All.
Recently joined and having lived close to Canterbury for most of my life, this thread caught my eye.

If you're spending any time in the city, the obvious place to start is the Cathedral. There is an entry charge, but you may be able to get a group discount as a "camera club". The Cathedral website states that "commercial photography" must be agreed in advance (presumably for a fee) and I don't know how tripod-phobic they are.

There's plenty of photogenic architecture within a spit of the Cathedral, notably the Cathedral Gate, the Weavers just down the high street (complete with ducking stool - sadly no longer in use!) and the Kings School just outside the city wall.

Moving on to the coast, the ruins at Reculver are illuminated at night and can look quite eerie from a distance, so you might like to time your visit around dusk.

Sadly I'm not sure I'll be able to join you as I've tickets to take the long-suffering other half to see Damien Rice at Wembley Arena on the Saturday. But if you post a loose itinery nearer the time I may be able to catch up with you on the Friday evening.
(What is the collective noun for a group of [analogue] photographers?)

Hope you enjoy your time in this little corner of the world, and maybe we'll get the chance to meet on the day.

All the best.

Tony.

here is a quote from a post about 3 pages back re itinery ....

I reckon a trip from Faversham to Reculver taking in Seasalter and Whitstable along the way would be a nice leisurely saturday.

Tnx for that: very interesting. I guess the Faversham court building must have once been the old covered market judging by the look of it?

Cheers, Bob.
