Personally I would quietly sidle on to the marshes...

(Despite the slightly shifty way it was phrased! ) Dungeness and Romney seems to be the best advice then!

Roll on, October! (I'm looking forward to this one!)

My other half and I had a very interesting and hugely thought provoking visit to Dave Miller's darkroom this afternoon. Was given truckloads of advice and some great ideas. Saw some absolutely fabulous prints on the wall and enjoyed a great meal afterwards.

Just never come between the man and his cheesecake! :surprised: :D

Oh dear! I seemed to have caused a storm (in a teacup?) I shall be very sorry if anyone walks away from what promises to be a great weekend just because of the odd digitally print. I appreciate the differences in opinion, but is having a commercial outfit printing for you more acceptable? John S

John - Nobody (that I know of) is blaming you for the disagreement and it concerned a portfolio of prints rather than an odd one. 'Tis done, fret not, move on.

Leon - I happened across an online version of the Good Pub Guide here. I know how seriously you take such research so I thought you might like to do a little personal recce on our behalf...? It's a dirty job, but...! :D

Research

Hi Guys - Having a vested interest in the potential hostelries of October - do tell all once research is complete. One awaits with bated breath and open wallet...

If Dave Miller wishes for more discussion rather than haring off into the woods to snap everything that moves, shall we pray for rain? Then nobody will want to venture forth to Romney Marsh or anywhere else! The marsh can be a bleak, bleak place as the wind howls across the open spaces! I know, used to go fishing there as a boy. What's Whitstable like - apart from oysters? John S.

John - I was offering a trip out to the Marsh on Sunday for those who are staying the extra night. I think its a bit too far for everyone to go to on the main part of the weekend. Whitstable is a nice seaside town sadly full of wealthy second home owners from London these days. I reckon a trip from Faversham to Reculver taking in Seasalter and Whitstable along the way would be a nice leisurely saturday. Lunch in Whistable seems the best option Pearsons Crab and Oyster House is my fave for a pint and lunch (especially if you like Crab and Oysters that is  )

This seems like an excellent itinerary to me Leon. I wonder, do they do Crab flavoured cheesecake at Pearsons?
There's little danger of me running off to the woods in Kent John, the locals burned them years ago, so Sunday on Romney Marsh may have it's attractions, as Win and I are not departing until Monday morning; we feel that will make the most of the attractions of the M25.

When I booked our room at the White Horse Inn, I seem to recollect being asked at what time we wished to dine on the Friday evening. Feeling completely unqualified to answer such a technical question, I ducked the issue. On further contemplation I realise this sad state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue, and must soon be resolved. Now I assume that we will all wish to dine together, and some of us will be travelling long distances to attend. I think it therefore pertinent to ask those with a far greater ability than I with these infernal machines to organise a poll so that the question can be resolved to our mutual satisfaction. Frank, Bob, anyone?

8pm sounds good to me. I should be able to get there by then.

Leon, I'd like to tag along on Sunday if that's okay. Of course it also depends on getting permission from the authorities as well.

As for Crab flavoured cheesecake I think you will find that everyrhing in whitstable contains essence of seafood. They even put Oysters in the beer!

Regards
Nigel

I think someone is playing your tune Frank...

Oh fer...! :surprised: I do more polling than a gondolier!

Or we could just call it here: anyone else for 8pm? Too late? I'm easy...

So we've heard! :D

I can do 8pm, assuming the bar is open and peanuts are available before then...!

Not sure what day we'll be driving down - bearing in mind we are coming from Glasgow it would be safer not to commit to lunch unless we travel down on Thursday - need to update nearer the time. What day(s) will folk be showing work?

Update ...

The Ford was repaired by the BMW.

The Rodagon and the Componon work a treat.

The Rada fits the Ideal.

The Otto Link 5* has a warm tone.

A new Whole Plate is on the drawing board.

And the overdraft flickered at the end of the month.

I figure I'm good to go.

I'll check Leon's page of B&Bs next week.

If you are prepared to sit and look, we will show our work to you morning, noon, and night:smile:

Actually we have tended to drag out the pics on both evenings, there's no fixed format; all very informal normally although with the news that Ailsa is now foot-loose and fancy-free in a manner of speaking who knows what could develop.
