Seriously, I don't think Grace is tossing stones, rather she has, I believe, formulated an opinion and posted it. I too, see a repitition and that has been both good and bad for me. Good because it has forced me to think a little harder and too try and come up with things maybe a little different. Bad because I do tire of the repitition I'm starting to see posted in the various galleries. I think this could be a good wake up call for all of us. I like to have my creativity challenged and that is a good thing. I know when I view the MAM on Saturday I'll be looking at it from another angle.

If the Frier is wearing nuns shoes, guess which side of the wrong bed he got out of!

A convent will likely be considered a church... Especially if it's an interior! Probably all architectural photography will be put on the list next. Architectural photography is so over played... hehehe

Morten, You need to go to Om Kloster. Take pictures of the passawge way between the convent and the monestary. It is definately not the normal pictures this sitw would be use to! If you haven't been, be ready for a shock.

And once again I find cause to wonder if I'm in the right community. I'm not a creative artist. I am a photographer. Plain and simple. I capture reality, hopefully in a pleasing way. Hopefully I can bring something to people that they wouldn't otherwise see or even notice. It's not my aim to be artistic in my endeavor.

But never mind that. What, may I ask, are we supposed to be photographing if landscapes, waterfalls, dogs, churches, dogs, nudes, children, flowers, birds, rocks, trees, cars, everything under the sun and the moon, has become redundant and boring?

Art is not everything. Reality has a place in life as well. Each photographer should be focused on bringing themselves into their photographs - whether that be to present a message in an artistic or realistic form, whether it be to just share what they see and the way they see it.

The only rule here, that I'm aware of, is "no digital" ...

Please ignore the rantings of those who piss and moan about the quality of the images. They forget that they, too, were beginners and they produced crap. SOme of us still do but that does not stop us. Your photos, and knowledge are progressing and that, I feel, is the nature and purpose of this site. Grace needs to realize that her photos have been far less than spectacular as well and really has nothing to base her claims on.

Mike says maybe Grace has a point but that is also his opinion. Just as Grace so loudly and bluntly offered hers.

I for one never tire of looking at a good waterfall picture, and a good dog portrait is just as valuable as any other portrait, be it a child or adult. If you are happy with what you are photographing then to hell with what someone else thinks about the subject.

Mark,

Am I judging someone? Did I say that I though landscapes sucked? No. Did I say that I thought church interiors are boring? No. Did I say that I thought that my pictures were so great? No. I just said, I'm tired of seeing the same old things shot in the same old way then posted for all of us to say "Great job," "Nice shot," or "I wish I had this one." Its like were signing highschool yearbooks, "Have a great summer," "Stay cool," or "See ya next year."

It seems that we like to stay in our comfort zones. Why not get out of them for once and see what happens?

Judge not lest ye be judged yourself. Your photos are not much to write home about , neither are mine for that matter. But I am not tossing stones.

It took Edison how many tries to get the lightbulb to work to his satisfaction? I have shot tons of waterfalls and I think they all stink. But I will continue to shoot them until I get one that satisfies me. Once I get that photo, I won't bother to post it as it will be considered boring and repetitive.

Since the prevailing opinion here seems that either people don't bother to look at the gallery because it's boring, or people who do look at it think it's boring, or people avoid it because the reproduction quality is poor, yet we are asked not to upload images with sufficient detail to make them look decent, well I give up.

Frankly I post photos to share them with a few people on this board whose opinions I both respect and want. It's a convenient communal warehouse.

Grace if you don't like my photos, well I don't give a crap, but I do respect your right to feel the way you do.

Eric R.,

Did I say I don't like waterfall photos? No. Did I say I don't like your photos? No. Don't put words into my mouth and don't get so heated. This is a discussion about getting outside the box. So what if there's people that don't look at the galleries? Does that really affect your photography? No.
