Back in June 2018, the Ferrania Folks hoped to be in continuous production by Fall

here are a few photos from my first roll of the 120--photographing detritus in the desert. My scanning setup isn't optimized yet, so this isn't perfect. These were shot on a Fujica GL690 with the 100mm ƒ3.5 lens.

Metering was sunny 16 with an EI of ~50. I'm not positive, but I think these were ƒ11 1/125sec. Development was in PyrocatHD 1:1:100 for 18 minutes at 20C.

Just curious, do you happen to remember what color the couch was, and the color of the paint remains on the fence?

The couch was almost white, with maybe a very light bluish grey. The wood fence—maybe reddish brown. The exposed wood is mostly grey. I’ll probably drive by it again this weekend and double check.

These look interesting, thanks for sharing! I wonder if you could try EI25-40 and cut dev down to 15 minutes for your next test.

Yeah, the 18 minutes was a WAG (wild assed guess) based on the fact that dev times for P30 seemed on average longer than other traditional grain films so I went longer with my pyro times.

I haven’t had a chance to load another roll yet, and I’m currently trying to explicitly shoot all the loaded film I have before loading and shooting anything new. Right now I believe I have 4 rolls of 120, 2 35mm, 12 4x5 (some were loaded a year ago!), 6 5x7, and 4 8x10. I don’t usually let it get this out of hand. But I’ll see if I can insert another roll of P30 in the queue.

those do look like the cassettes they are using currently, (except for the lack of DX code) and the tan color of the film at the lower right is interesting....

now a search for @robbie_mcintosh turns up a british guitarist who played for "The Pretenders" ...
I was told the next batch of P30 in 120 would be out in October, and so their may be another reson to go back to regular visits to their web site... (the cost to ship something by DHL means I have to be able to have a BIG order to make it worthwhile)

You mean a "story?" Newsfeed is just a regular Facebook post. Stories are temporary and disappear. I've never understood why those even exist or why people post stories, but they do and they do.

I've seen it on FB and Instagram. I doubt they're ready to launch a colour film, as that's orders of magnitude more complicated than anything they have launched so far....but it's possible....they did say R&D for colour film was ongoing.

@robbie_mcintosh appears to be a photographer and that's his instagram handle. He seems to like street photography and portraits of people who are quirky/unusual in some ways. As far as I can tell he lives in Napoli (Naples) which might be why Film Ferrania are featuring him. He works on film and sells prints.

I hope we find out soon. They have said that the work on colour film has continued alongside the efforts to get in-house production of P30 going fo 135 and 120. What that means is that if they do perfect colour film, they'll be ready to leap into production quickly because the rest of the infrastructure is already in place for the B&W products.

But it really would be a huge leap from what they've done so far. FWIW I think they'll eventually get there, but I will be surprised if they're close already.

It's also a very odd leap to explore C41 if they're on their way to a functioning E6 film. It's totally different chemistry for the most part. Or have they changed the ambition in the meantime? I haven't been following closely.

Regardless of their ambition, the last colour films they produced were the C41 Solaris films, right? It's probably much easier to resurrect these.

I don't know; perhaps. But I wouldn't be surprised if this avenue had a different background to it. For instance, a collaboration with a company that's been exploring C41 film themselves.

I'm not at home and can't take a look at E100 that's the only slide film I have at the moment. Were E-6 films always of some other, distinctive colour?

BTW, what is the base colour of P30/Orto?

You may very well be right; I just automatically thought C41 for some reason.

What the emulsion will look like in its unprocessed state depends heavily on stuff like sensitizing dyes etc. The emulsion-side of the C41 film does look noticeably more magenta than the E6 in this particular instance.
