I don't like roll calls, so impersonal! Can I add that I also love good wine, nice and fun company, romantic & comedy movies (sorry, I'm so over Hollywood and prefer European out-of-mainstream movies), love musicals (ie. Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, etc..) and some of my current favourite musicians are Pete Murray, Carla Bruni, Jack Johnson, Jackson Brown, The John Butler Trio, Blues & Jazz and lots of other stuff...

ok,

I don't drink wine... a VB or maybe a bourbon thanks, rarely go to the movies, have never hired a DVD, fell asleep at the last musical I went to (which is the last I'll ever go to) and some of my favorite music (that I never actually play) is AC/DC, The Angels, INXS and Lloyd Cole & the Commotions... I do have two boys (& a wife) aged 3 and 6 that keep me busy and amused.

Okay, here's my informal one...

Mainly beer, mainly Coopers, occasionally wine. Not really into musicals but went to The Lion King on Broadway with my wife. One 10 year old stepdaughter. And one new baby on the way in July.
Favorite music - Pretenders, Pretenders and Pretenders.

Fair call...

Have not met many wines I wouldn't try again. Same for beers (except Fosters). Have always LOVED going to the movies, but now with big Sydney mortgage, two boys, 3 & 4 1/2 and Wife not working, it's usually DVD's and jus the occasional big screen outing.

Music: Rock, Blues, Classical, Opera, Some Pop, Hip Hop, very eclectix mix I suppose.

Best way to spend free time - With my Wife & Kids
2nd best way - With Wife & Kids and some friends.

Go to occasional big theatre productions and quite like the smaller local efforts.

Went and saw Trent Parke and his Lady tell all about their 2 year Aussie trip photo adventure a couple of weeks back. Absolutely awesome. There is a couple who decided to live their photographic dream... Dead Link Removed

Married with a grownup family without whose encouragement I would never had tried developing a roll of film.

The internet and books are my only access to photography and darkroom so a lot of my methods are probably way off base. All the same I am thoroughly enjoying it apart from moments of sheer frustration and doubts about my sanity. I like to photograph trees and old buildings and also love the night sky.

I have only recently discovered that red wine is rather good which is handy because I am surrounded by vineyards and wineries.

Phew that was hard. Who's next.

Okay, here's the story from Kalgoorlie:

I'm 39, married with two kids (a girl aged 8 and a boy aged 6). Photography is my obsession. I spend more time thinking about it than any other aspect of my life.

I have been shooting film for about 16 years and bought my Tachihara in 1998. That was a turning point for my photography, because it taught me to see more selectively and it exposed me to Philip Greenspun's LF forum. During the racing season, I shoot the horses with my 35mm system (which is the only time I use it these days ....)

I have a Bachelor of Applied Science (Applied Geology) (finished uni in 1991) and I work 45 hours a week as a geologist (computer modelling). I own a gallery selling my own prints, which my wife runs for most of the day. I take over at 3.30pm on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Doing the maths, it leaves about 92-98 hours each week to shoot film and play with the kids (I'll sleep when I'm dead! )

Some time in the next two years, I aim to be doing landscape photography full time (ie chuck in the day job).

Hi from Melbourne. My old computer went to electronic heaven a week or so ago. Anyway, nice to see this thread. Bio stuff is: Moved to Aussieland about 5 years ago. Decided at that time if I was ever to make a fist of photography that I had better carpe deum. I shoot mostly landscape and architecture. Formats are: 8x20, 11x14, 8x10 5x7 (and 4x5 for testing film ). I've just finished a new darkroom and yesterday developed negs for the first time in it. I have three grown daughters in Canada, just signed divorce papers yesterday and am now moving ahead after a year of fog. Background includes 10 years of linguistic work in northern Canada, a BA in philosophy and a MA in New Testament and Greek.

I think Trent Parke is one of the very best photographers in Australia. His "Dream/Life" book is stunning.

Yes same one. I started out on Greenspuns Lusenet which was full of helpful photographers, but that closed and went to Photonet which was alright, but had a few smarta...s. Then I found Melb.Camera Club and I believe it was you who posted a link to here. Many thanks for that. If there's something I don't understand I do a search here and nearly always find what I'm looking for.

I still haven't got to see Monash Gallery, if I ever get to Melb. again I refuse to leave the State until I've been there. Adelaide has nothing like it.

I see BarrieB is posting here so may I just say "Thanks Barrie" for the advice on developing negatives. Everytime I do it I think "I'm not making a martini" and they are much better now.

Photography is my passion.
Used to do BW darkroom work when I was in college. Would love to get back into it.
Shoot mainly landscapes (when I manage to get away on vacations) and family.
Married, Have a lovely daughter, and a son (16 & 14).
Shoot mainly colour these days. Got into 6X6 2 years ago and haven't gone back to 35mm as often as I used to.
Work as a Program Manager with a multi national IT company.
Used to travel to Japan a lot.Yodobashi at Shinjuku is my favourite tourist spot.
Daughter is bugging me to setup a darkroom at present.
Need to think about it...Not sure if I will have the time to justify the expenses...
Came across this forum recently. Great place to hang out without the digital noise...
Most repeated phrase to my wife, when I embark on yet another photo related purchase - "Buy Once, Cry Once"...
She seems to be putting up with it, and it is great!!!

My advice with the darkroom - just do it! You can probably set one up for less than $200. You'll wish you always had a darkroom once you have one. Tell your wife "Build Once, Smile Often".

Based in Sydney and undergoing a sort of reverse osmosis having just flogged off my 8x10 kit. Just 4x5 now.
