Yeah Barrie's very helpful... I think he helped spend about $3k of my money recently ... I have got his tripod head though

Some goods exhibitions on at Monash at the moment... Rex and Max Duplain (spelling?)... I was up there the other day!

Lol Nige That's an expensive tripod head.

If I recall rightly you can pop into Monash any old time. Lucky thing, I hope you appreciate it.

Our Aussie list is getting quite long isn't it? I hope Glenn in Sydney is keeping track.

Real nice to meet you all on APUG! Quite a gathering from Down Under I must say! :D

I wish Perth wasn't sooo far away from the rest of the world, it gets so damn lonely over hear. Nice place but gee, it's over 2000km to the nearest city and any civilisation that represents historical art and vibrant culture!

Whoopsies, sorry Graeme, just IMHO. I suppose Hay St in Kalgoorlie represents vibrant and historical culture...
Guess I come with a heavy European background and miss the ancient old buildings, lifestyle, history, vast array of cultures, etc...
Here I can't get out beyond the black stump and the barby!

Hi Viv and Walter, glad to see the list of "visible" Aussie Apug members is slowly growing...

And I agree with Kevin, just go set up the darkroom. Mine has cost me under $100 so far, excluding consumables. You won't regret it.

Viv, did you want to share your City?

You're right Carol, more and more coming out of the woodwork; it has to be a good thing. I must organise a Sydney meet for the few that have surfaced here in recent weeks.

And yes, I am keeping count of the Aussie's who pop up. I still have the hope that the one or two I know of who appear to reside in AU will decide to drop a note into this thread to introduce themselves. I certainly will not pester anyone who wishes to stay low profile and lurk. (Although I really wish the Sydney-sider with the large folder collection would pop up onto the radar ...)

Glenn (on leave, 1 wk down, 1 to go :smile: )

Hi Glenn, you're doing well keeping track! I'm trying to do my tax/BAS at the moment and being not the most organised person, can't keep track of most things. Could think of much better things to do on a Saturday night!
I'll be in BNE in May for the big photography event and then hope to stop off in Melbourne on the way back or make it over there later in the year. Would be a good opportunity to catch up with some other Aussie APUG'ers if convenient.
Cheers, Nicole

Request to the Sidneyites,
I'm going to be in Sydney for several day shoot with the 11x14 and 8x20 cameras. Do any of you have suggestions for a place to do two things: 1) develop film, and 2) reload film holders. I'll do all the printing down here in sunny Melbourne. Thanks for your input.

Hi Nicole,

I live in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne.
Use mainly B&W 35 or 645.
Just set up a darkroom at Christmas.
I work with people with disabilities but hope to retire in a few years and spend more time playing photography.

Hi David, good to see you coming to Sydney, do you know dates yet? Would like to catch up for a beer if you have time. Are you shooting for pleasure or work? If pleasure, maybe you'd enjoy some company on one of the outings? Maybe we could organise a Sydney version of the recent Melb event?

As for the large film thing, I can't help myself as I use a small darkbag for film loading into my dev tank (35mm and 120 only), but my *darkroom* isn't so good, so I have to print at night only

(I hope a better equipped local will help you out)

Hi Glenn,
The trip happens the week of 14 March and I'm shooting a commercial job of St. Mary's and then doing George Pell's portrait with an 11x14 camera. I would very much like to catch up. I'll post my mobile # to you separately.
Cheers,
David

Lol, Graeme, I've gone back to include my maiden name. Should've done that a long time ago. Primarily because I also love painting and did a lot including exhibitions and some awards in Europe but all under my maiden name. So, I decided not to 'seperate' the two art mediums because of having to change my name. Some of the little complications women have...

Can I make a suggesion for a little APUG gathering in 2005:
This is a little short-notice, but you never know...

Between the 15-17th May 2005 is a big get-together in Brisbane for photographers and suppliers with workshops, conferences etc... to choose from and lots of it is either free attendance or not that expensive. It's interesting and well worth attending!

Check out this site for more information:

Qantas are halving their frequent flier points again so it's an incentive for me to use my points for this trip.

I will be attending this event which would give me an opportunity to catch up with 'east-enders' of Australia. Yep, they're (WA) actually letting me out!!! :D

Let me know if there are any takers.
Cheers, Nicole

FWIW I attended the show last year in Sydney and I thought it was pretty good overall. Lots of product displays (Even a Mamiya MF display) and they also had a large display of Aussie press photographer works on display outside of the convention.

Co-incidentally I returned from Brisbane a few hours ago, I have family there and was also born there and grew up there. I may be a chance to be there Nicole...

I went searching for "The Gathering" but my patience eroded before I found it. Any clues where the post is?

Just an update...

This afternoon two friends and I met up with David and we had a chat then went back to the Cathedral to see his 8x20 ULF camera. Truly amazing for a MF guy like myself. We had four in our little group and it was a wonderous time looking over and through David's 80 year old beast.

The best part though, was taking a few sample prints out on to the steps of the cathedral so we could see just what a 8x20 camera could produce in prints. To cut a long and very humorous story short, our little private group of 4 ended up being filmed and videotaped by a large group of Korean tourists, and they loved David's work so much they bought two of his prints on the spot. See the attached pics. (Sorry they're digipics, I had just used the last frames on my TLR and the moment would not last)

Thanks David, it was a blast.

Glenn
