We've almost finished the Media (gallery) area tonight and wow, it is such a massive improvement, super excited  Will try to get some screenshots soon.

Stupid question...
Will the thread/post IDs remain the same, or at least redirect?
I have acquired a large number of bookmarks for reference (in a semi-successful effort to not post questions that have already been answered) and wonder if they will work once the new system is up.

I am hopeful (based on success other migrations) that a comprehensive set of redirects will sort this out for us.

I've just remembered an issue with Xen forums that has caused problems on other sites I use: "Out of the box" it doesn't seem to support HTML in posts (BBCODE is fine)

this can make posting images inline that are hosted elsewhere a problem.

Worth checking out perhaps

This is generally disabled, as far as I am aware it is a huge security risk to allow code to run within forum posts. That's why BBCODE is allowed as it's native to the forum. What we can do though is ensure there is a lot of additional BBCODE for us, maybe for table creation etc.

Just an update I posted in another thread:

The upgrade is close. I just moved house which has turned life upside down for a bit, so I'm not ready to do the migration until it can have my undivided attention. I anticipate not leaving my screen for a week during the roll out so don't want any distractions. The good thing is during our dev cycle the new software has had 3 code updates which make it even better, especially the new gallery component. The APUG core upgrade will definitely happen in August though. This means we'll have forums and gallery near 100% usable, then bring in more and more functionality until we're back to normal.

Hey Sean, Id like to ask in the new forum version, could you integrate the chat a little more in the forums? Like have it on the same page of the forums?

There will be some great chatroom options with the new software

Hi All,

Just an update (for those who want the finer details). We've been following the development of the new forum software closely and have been developing the new APUG on their 1.4.x version. The forum software now has a major release coming of 1.5. They have just released 1.5 RC2 which means a full and ready 1.5 version "Gold" is imminent (possibly 2 months away). It will a big release with some stunning improvements across the board. We are reviewing our options:

1) finish out our APUG development build and rollout in version 1.4
2) wait for 1.5 and bring our dev environment into 1.5, then roll out the new APUG on to 1.5

I prefer option 2, rather than roll out the new APUG on forum software 1.4 and then be faced with a major upgrade to 1.5 after that. We might as well hold off for 1.5 and do this once. With release candidate2 of 1.5 we can already migrate our development environment to 1.5 RC2

Some might be thinking, "well, what if you dev on 1.5 then 1.6 is coming, will you then wait for 1.6?". No. The 1.5 is a major release worth migrating too, it also includes many enhancements to the gallery system. I'm perfectly happy for us to go to 1.5 for a while. 1.5 will likely be the main forum software release for a year or so aside from point releases (1.5.1, 1.5.2, etc).

This pushes our launch out a bit further but we want to do it right.

Thanks for your patience and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to let me know.

Thank you for being open and transparent. I have handled many software upgrades and I agree with you.

We generally don't accept a new version of any of our software until it's been out for 6 months and been thru a cycle of bug-fixes to stabilize it a bit. All the bells and whistles are nice, but...

Can you install a copy of 1.3 instead?

I always try to be at least one version behind.

Yeah, no doubt I'd go that route for enterprise stuff. The forum path is generally 50-100+ bug fixes with every point release. 1.5 is not a radical change from 1.4 just so many bug fixes and enhancements from 1.4 they feel it deserves a new branch. That being said I'll be watching other big boards closely who jump onto 1.5.0 and if need be wait until 1.5.1-1.5.2. I'm in contact with some of these big board owners so will see how they are going after their 1.5.0 update. The guys behind this software are extremely sharp and have a great track record, it's why they've become leaders in this space.

The only fly might be that the 1.5 full release gets put back as people test the RC and find horrid bugs

But I'll be very pleased when the change takes place, I'm sick of not being able to use Tapatalk properly with APUG on the current platform, and I can't access DPUG at all with any browser on my Android 'phone.

Lets hope that the newer release works a bit less slooooowly on my Opera browsers under ordinary (Win & Linux) platforms too.

I think you'll really like the new system. General chatter so far for those who have already put their production boards on 1.5 RC2 is highly positive. Not that I would ever put a prod board on RC code but a lot of people do it anyway. No issues mentioned so far and claims that users are loving the new features. So far it's sounding pretty solid. New system will also have sitewide https and optional 2-factor authentication if you want it.

1.5.1 or 1.5.2 will avoid the worst of the bugs and the biggest headaches.

As far as our enterprise software, we are talking HR/PR for almost 100k employees and supply chain for 100 hospitals. Several of us were developers at the vendor at one time or another and are very familiar with their idea of QA. I guess that makes me more paranoid than some.
