I would think that running the fundraising through here (just make the donate button prominent enough to those who don't really go to the main page) will get more of it to APUG and not to the service handling it. And I believe someone ( :whistling: ) owes you for their server space, too.

Hey Sean,

On another forum in one's Subscribed Threads page there's a new option. In addition to clicking the first, last or an intermediate page, there's a button to click that takes you to the first post made after you last viewed that thread. Is that something that can be done here?

I can't see that being a problem to implement. Feel free to email me the details of the other forum so I can see what codes they are using: apug.org@gmail.com

Two tin cans with a taught string between should suffice.

One thing that's occasionally extremely useful in the current vB system is the neat feature that allows you to click on "Replies" and have a window pop that shows all the posters to the thread with the number of their posts in that thread and also allows you to display just their posts in the thread.
In a zillion page thread when you can't find just the right search term but can vaguely remember who posted what you're looking for ... invaluable

The new system can do this as well

*update.. We're having an extremely successful fundraiser. I'm now working with my coder Clement who is one of the best forum coders I know (we've worked on many APUG projects over the years). The dev environment tweaking has begun..

Excellent! Everything keeps moving--and eventually forces those of us who are publishers to make way for the new. I launched a specialty interest site at the first of the year, using SMF as the base platform. Then decided to migrate to vB. After two months of dev headaches, the idea was scratched. vB has just become a mess as Sean stated--and does not play nicely with other platforms that publishers may wish to integrate. Xf is a newer product--but comes to us from the originators of vB with a new code base. It should serve APUG in good stead.

Keep up the good work, and don't stay up all night tweaking the code...

i have a friend who has been working on a carrier pigeon based metric

Don't laugh, I had to do that last week.
Trying to upload a zip file with 500MB worth of assignment (and outputs) just kept failing from home, after a day of trying.
I ended up sticking it on a USB stick, rode my bike 20 mins into uni, and uploaded it from there (with about 30 mins left before the deadline).

Just a quick note to say we're still working on things and so far so good. Styling is pretty much done and forum functionality is almost where I want it to be. The new customizable sidebar is much better. User control panel, private messaging, I find everything to be a major leap over the old system. There is no sense of 'bloat', everything is very clean, well organized and smart. We're now doing a lot of work in the Media section (Gallery, Videos). I should have some more screenshots early next week

Just out of curiosity as I doubt it is anything I would ever really need, but is the site going to be "Resposive" down to mobile phone level as seems to be the trend with most html5 sites these days?

It is currently responsive yes. One of the tricks is to ensure some of the modifications we make do not break that. I would like to use our own theming for mobile/tablet as it is better for our overall security.

I am using a tablet more than I used to. I would really appreciate a larger/more physically separate "first unread post" icon adjacent to thread titles in the results from a "New Posts" search. Since I started using the tablet, I have accidentally clicked on way too many member profiles.

If you look at the Xenforo site community pages on your tablet I suspect the font sizes and functionality won't be too disimilar. And if you look at that link on a mobile you'll see a different layout gain. That's what's called responsive. i.e. the layout flows and alters to suit the device viewport size which it only does to a limited extent with current site.

I'll just be very pleased if it works properly with (free) tapatalk once again. Only being able to read subscribed threads is very annoying!

I do not use a tablet, iPad, iPhone, et al so I would hate to see the use of a desktop or laptop computer sacrificed to accommodate a smaller device.

Typos cause by my own screw ups, not by a frigging tiny keyboard. Electrons sent to ground and not reused.
