Okay, the first four UK Gatherings have all been absolutely brilliant. Here's a thread for the fifth!

While we were in Norfolk, some mouthy slaphead (that'll be me, then!) suggested the possibility of Ross on Wye in the Spring. Other options discussed included Berwick on Tweed and Canterbury, amongst others.

Time-wise, I thought April worked quite well this year. Others may prefer a different time.

Ladies and gents, let the discussion commence!

If Berwick upon Tweed were to be the choice I would be happy to provide some information re B&B and photographic locations and of course I would attend given that I had no prior commitments.

of course my vote would be for Canterbury, seeing as I live about 6 miles away. The village where I live (chilham) is very picturesque qith 2 pubs (yes, we are a 2 pub village) one of which has quite a few b&b rooms (http://www.woolpackchilham.co.uk) although good photo locations (IMO) are a bit limited close by - a drive around east kent would be best. David Bebbington would be able to chip here too with some suggestions. Dave Miller lived not too far away at one point, but that was in teh dark ages, long before roads were invented, so I doubt his input would be valuable :wink:.

Of course, everyone has jsut been south, so to do it again might be a bit unfair .... berwick is great and I'd go for that too.

From a purely selfish point of view, Canterbury would get my vote, and the area is of course fantastically photogenic. However, if there are significant numbers of northerly APUGers who would attend a meeting in Berwick, I could go for that too.

Can I throw in a vote for Ross on Wye?

Near to M4/M5 Motorway's, lots of good photogenic locations. Unfortunately a long way from Les and Richard.

Barry

I'll second that, it's an area that I have only passed through to date; unlike darkest Kent with which I am intimate.

Ross on Wye is also vaguely central, which may encourage a greater attendance.

I'll go for 50% Ross, 50% Berwick (will I need my passport?) at the moment.

If the latter, I'll make a week of it: too far to drive for a couple of days and I've never set tripod in Northumberland before. Ross is just a blast up the M4 for me.

Cheers, Bob.

First preference would be for Ross on Wye - it's not as far for me as the other two and its pretty rich in B&B's and photo ops (Ross itself, the Wye river, Monmouth, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow and the Severn Bridge, etc.)

However, I'm happy to go with the majority decision.

Dave - The matter of your intimacy with darkest Kent is currently sub judice and anyway should certainly not be discussed on a family forum.

Ross would be my choice as it would allow me to come down for the day. Due to family and other commitments, a whole weekend can be difficult.

Cheers

looks like it's Ross on Wye then - sounds good to me. Perhaps the other two locations can be the next 2

I've never been to a gathering before but I'm keen to come along. Ross would get my vote. I'd be up for lift-sharing from the Midlands (my car or yours).

We have friends in Cheltenham might be able to tie this in with a visit to them - I could pop across for the day at least. Only problem is that I belong to UPP and we have our annual gathering the week prior to Easter or the one after - not sure which it is to be yet!

Indeed. Relevant dates are:

* Spring Half Term: from 19 February 2007 to 23 February 2007
* Easter Holiday: from 02 April 2007 to 13 April 2007
* Summer Half Term: from 28 May 2007 to 01 June 2007

Plus the Sat & Sun at each end of the hols will be off-limits to all sane persons too...

Cheers, Bob.

I would be interested in coming along. Can I bring my DSLR as well as my 5 X 4 film camera?

Don't even think of asking.:mad:

That's right, someone might mistake you for Les McLean (who usually brings a digi-gizmo along with his analogue gear)! Then again, it would give Dave Miller's wife (usually found toting a Canon 350D) someone with whom to discuss digicams...

I shall hide it well, but the Sinar doesn't do snapshots very well and looks silly when hung round my neck. Without loads of shiny pastic with Canon written on it how will the muggers know who to mug?

Good idea. If we go shooting in the mean streets of Ross on Wye we'll let you go on ahead as bait...

Don't let Mr Miller catch you, though, or the only photographs you'll be making will be... erm, have you seen 'Innerspace'?!

:wink:

One digigun is quite enough of a trash generator for these occasions thank you. The one referenced very nearly ended up in a Norfolk harbour. The fact that Les’ has fallen off the wagon is little excuse to encourage their proliferation.

Hi there
Another newbie interested in attending the spring gathering... but I'm not new to Dave's views on digital, having often had his concidered opinion on some of my monochromatic 'digital daubings':wink:. We are both member's at Abington CC you see!

If I promise only to bring FP4, can I come?
