I don't have exact numbers as not every single apug member logs in every single day,
Hmmm.. I'm on Apug several times a day.. at least three, but only log in when making a reply or posting a question.

My general feeling is the site will obviously move towards hybrid processes since this is opening the floodgates and there are quite a few people doing hybrid things. Nothing really wrong with that. I doubt the digital only section will get much action aside from the people who are already here. I could be wrong. Some of us do have quite a lot of knowledge about things that aren't talked about already here, and that will come out I would assume. I expect for the first while, there will be a lot of action....

I wonder too if some of the people who have left over the years will be back.

APUG doesn't have a bad reputation of grumpy old men. You are thinking about the other site beginning with L.

I wonder how many people rarely log in because they stay logged-in all the time - as I do - that way I can immediately post a reply should I want to (though not often).

I'll miss my daily "fix" of APUG while you are down but look forward to more of the same on PHOTRIO - thank you, Sean.

^^^ I'm logged in 99.9 percent of the time too because I have VOIP telephone. I see no reason to close my browser since the computer is on anyway.

Since I access APUG with my phone, I don't log out for weeks or months and glance at APUG throughout the day and night. Only rarely do I log out and even then it's brief.

My wife would tell you I seem to always be here.
I too never log out of APUG, but I do close down my browser and turn off my computer.

Excuse me

On the one hand I have always thought that it is better to join than to separate things, so in that aspect my approval is assured for this Trio (mess?). I have no problems with any changes, even if there's a digital approach. On the other hand I do not like the words "disable" or "ignore"... and I prefer to move far away from the word hybrid, 'cause I fully belileve that there is nothing of a different nature in the essence of Photography ...

Now, I decided to register in this community exactly one year ago (and that was my deadline to stay here with you) and perhaps this change is a new way for me to stay one more year (or perhaps I should fullfil my promise anyway ... so I guess that there will be nothing wrong if any user decides to exit, and then start again with a new name and face ...), blah, blah, blah

However the important question is that when I registered here on APUG I had clear what it was, I was clear what I was doing, "and what I wanted from it" (I am not registered in any other place)

I fully respect Sean - or Group - decision (I understand that as a pure marketing strategy, like the "Love it" in the first image on the OP #1), but IMHO I do not think it's a good idea, nor do I like the new name (I also did not like the word A in APUG, because it is an acronym that already makes distinction) but the new name needs a new advice for sure.

No matter what happens here or anywhere on the Internet, our Photographic hearts and heads should be safe from all this.

I wish all the best to everyone!

As long as the digital versus analog online wars don't dirty the forums I think this will be a good idea
The thing is, the only place I see this being enacted is on APUG. Other sites seem to manage to mix the two without animus resulting.

Having said that, it has calmed down somewhat in the last couple of years; I think due to moderation activity and the departure of a few of the more frothing-at-the-mouth fundamentalists.

On another tack altogether, just as a thought ... there is actually an APUG Twitter account, which seems to be dormant and only for "site news"; Throwing a bit of effort into Photrio/APUG social media accounts strikes me as a good way to attract new people to the main site.

For what I know, a web server session will normally expire after a pre-determined time, 5 minutes, 15 minutes or so. That will force the user to log-in again.
Either your browser transparently reloads pages to keep the session open, or it transparently reopens the session.
From the server's point of view a user keeping the site always on top will probably be recorded as making many visits in a day.

I am a relatively new member. I found APUG completely by accident, but was Very Pleased that i did. I had just "Gotten Back Into" photography, and APUG was The Best accident that could have happened. So Thank YOU for that...!!
I must say i am shocked and sad to read about the "Failings" of this sight, and Very Disappointed (and shocked again) to learn of the low rate of paid subscribers. I understand that some people cannot afford to pay to be a Member...NO Problem At All. I am indebted to you for the help your membership has given me...Glad YOU are here.
But to those who CAN afford that rather small fee, and Do Not Pay...Shame On You...you are the same type that are too lazy to walk the 30 (short) Feet to put your shopping cart in its proper place, and just leave it in The Parking lot, where the rest of us Deal With It For You.
I will miss being (just) an APUG'er, but i trust this change is necessary.
I will give a little extra financial help to the Forum Owner(s). Is it "just" Sean.?
Anyway.....Thank You for everything.
Sorry if my comments sound disjointed. This situation caught me off-guard, and kind of pissed me off.
Thanks Again

I remain logged in for weeks (sometimes months at a time); only getting logged out when I clear my cache or do a general clean of the computer, therefore requiring me to login again. I close the browser regularly and shut-down the Mac, but never intentionally logout of APUG.

Hi All,

Again, thanks so much for the comments and funding coming in. We are well ready to fund the final steps now, truly amazing!

I thought I would share a peek of Photrio's new "News" page. This is an area we coded up, and can be visited daily by photographers to find the latest interesting photography news online. Ill be putting in some time every day to populate the page, but members can also submit news themselves or if you blog and would like to share, you can submit such content. The system auto-populates title, summary and thumbnails for you (similar to how facebook does it). Mods will then approve relevant news. The news page will also work with the workflow selection options (if you only want to see analog news that is all you'll see). The news page will contain a grid of condensed news blocks like below:

Screen Shot 2017-08-07 at 10.16.06 PM.png

Also, the views of the submission are counted, and every submission auto creates a new discussion thread where members can discuss that particular article within Photrio forums (the chat bubble at the bottom takes you to the thread and displays post count). I'm looking forward to this page being a daily stop for 1,000's of photographers and Photrio members.

Thanks again,
Sean

I, for one, welcome our new binary overlords and wish them much success.
I will also be keeping my subscription (prescription?) Current.

I've been just a lurker on this forum, this is my first post (hello!).
Had no idea about the financial costs it represented nor the little percentage of subscribers. I've just subscribed...
I have no problem with new forum name (but don't really love it...) or hybrid content as long as knowledge sharing remains as is.

I'm for any action Sean sees fit to improve the viability of the site.

Like others, I'd like to see more subscribers. My APUG subscription is my most valuable, cost effective, annual photographic investment. I've learned a lot from people with decades of experience, happy to share their knowledge, leading me to try new things like bromoil. I've been inspired by the quality of much of the work in the Gallery (this place is loaded with superb photographers, generous in the sharing of their work. Some have become among my favorite photographers.). I've been encouraged to pursue some of my more "questionable" work, when I've posted to the Gallery. I've found kindred spirits, who are trying to push their personal image making in new directions. While I've never done any hybrid work, ironically, APUG has fostered an interest in doing so, so I can try different contact printing processes.

A few years ago I suggested making the Galleries open to non-subscribers for a one week period, once a year (maybe calling it a "subscription drive week"). They wouldn't be able to upload images, but they would be able to view them, and leave comments. I think this could inspire more members to subscribe.

Hey Sean, I sent you a PM regarding my renewal. The funds are transferred but I goofed on checkout... failed to enter my APUG moniker in the correct field.

When you google apug.org here you get a pug dog or pug dogs at the head of the search. Most people are puzzled by the name apug. Even explanations elicit a query "what" or "why"... I hope phototrio comes across better as a name.

I first went to photnet as it was what turned up in most messages. Most everyone here did as well. Now, I cannot even access photonet.

In which case, may I recommend this thread? (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

The OP is a bit of a tricky character, but he's got an idea that will help ...

Just typing "APUG" into Google, I get this as the first result:

" The Analog Photography Users Group ... APUG › home

APUG.ORG is an international community of like minded individuals devoted to traditional ( non-digital) photographic processes. Operating ..."

Below that, I see a Wikipedia entry for us.

More importantly, when I enter "film photography forum" into Google, APUG is the first result.

And this is all great, but look at the date of my membership and realize that then that is what I got. Finally, a friend directed me to this site.

In addition, I should add that there is very little interest in APUG here, or any other photo site for that matter. Most are doing work themselves. See the GEH (now GEM) website. They offer a host of workshps, one in emulsion making this week and another in two weeks.
