FWIW, I was only suggesting that the good Doctor should head there to test the 6x17, not for the trip to be there... TFF in my opinion.

fun

It sounds to me like you guys just might have a lot of fun. To help out, let me tell you how to make American cowboy coffee over an open fire. You throw water and coffee grounds in a pot and cook the devil out of it all. When you think it might be ready to drink, you throw a horseshoe into the pot. When the horseshoe floats, the coffee is ready.

The Australian bush tradition is for Billy Tea - essentially just any old tin on a campfire with tea and water in it...

This predilection for slightly awful outdoor hot drinks is again why I propose Halls Gap - close to the bush but with a decent flat white only a stone's throw away.

Any thoughts on dates, everyone?

Currently sitting in brilliant sunshine in downtown Munich, we'll be back in July (suffer you lot).

Burra and surrounds is interesting, but I would spend something like a few days in the area and if there is to be a group meeting there, make our visit coincide with anything decided here. I would suggest August/September is the most friendly time, both for light and temperature, it can get quite cool there.

As for the Grampians, yep some interesting stuff and we always like to visit that area. With regard to food in Dunkeld, we prefer the cafe/restaurant opposite the hotel, excellent stuff and most of the locals go there as well, substantially cheaper to boot. Best time for the Grampians we have found, generally, is Spring, so late August to September is pretty good, although it can at times be a bit damp around then; better than bushfires though.

With regard to coffee on the move in the middle of nowhere, even instant coffee from Aldi is alright. Sort of like, "hunger is the best chef" kind of thing.

Or my traditional Scout Hike pick-me-up, condensed milk+coffee in a tube, straight from the tube. Who needs hot water?

I am jealous. Having lived in Munich for a couple of years (next to the Linhof factory), I can highly recommend the Hofbraeuhaus beergarden at Wiener Platz in Haidhausen. Better avoid the Hofbraeuhaus in the city centre, too touristic. Also have a look at the surroundings. The lakes and the Karwendel mountains are stunning. My favourite place south of Munich is probably the Walchensee. The only problem is that there always seem to be some electricity lines in the picture. I also like the Osterseen (south of lake Starnberg), a few small lakes off the beaten track. Enjoy the good life, Mick.

I'll be in Stuttgart & Berlin in May, Mick!

Berlin is great, you will love it, Marc. But Stuttgart? The only reason I can see to visit Stuttgart is to pick up a new Porsche from the factory in Zuffenhausen

Back on topic: Not sure yet if I can join the Grampians tour.

Joachim, we had a wonderful day at the Ammersee, brilliant weather after a misty/foggy early morning. We are staying in Germering with one of my sisters in-law, beautiful place to pushbike around as well. Heading to the MGV museum, which seems to be called the Trambahn museum, then on another day an Egyptian museum, then another day a paleantologist museum, all in Munich.

Heading to Spain for a month next week, return to Germany in May then (I believe) heading to Berlin in May. It may just be possible to meet up with Marc and Christine in Berlin, who knows.

Someone has to do it!

Back to the subject, anytime in September should be alright for us (probably myself).

Running around Europe with a single F3 with 28/50/135mm lenses and Agfa APX 25 (last 5 rolls) and a fair few rolls of Neopan 400, so far so good.

Enjoy it, Mick, although it sounds like I don't need to tell you that. Take special care of those last APX25 angels. I have a few left myself.

I'll send you my email Mick, so we can see...

Getting back to the Grampians: we have the weekends of:
6th & 7th September
20th & 21st September
27th 28th September

Any of those do-able? All seem OK for me, especially the 6th & 7th, which appear to be uni mid-semester break...

Either of the latter 2 options for me...

Would also love a catch up before then.

I can take all three September options.

Joachim, we just spent the day walking around the Walchensee in 23C sunny weather, unbelievable. Mirror smooth water with snow capped mountains reflecting in the still water. :D Pushbike riding from Bad Tolz up to a monastery or something like that for what is supposed to be a dream lunch tomorrow; finding life difficult at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!

I am non-committal for any dates from the end of August due to us going to Los Angeles (family) then Vegas ~ Moab/Utah (me, for Bryce, Joshua Tree, Monument Valley, Yosemite, Canyonlands, Zion, Arches National Parks et al) on dates being worked out in September-October.

Waking up this thread after a week:

So far...
6th & 7th September - Mick, Shane, Me & Christine
20th & 21st September - Mick, Shane, LJH, Me & Christine
27th 28th September - Mick, LJH, Me & Christine

Also - Yanluk, and maybe Joachim, and Kevin if it is a daytrip.

I feel we are at a specific date impasse!! Who else wants to come along on one of those weekends to tip the balance in any specific one's favour?

Marc!

I can't do 27 to 28 but can do 20 to 21.
Sorry, couldn't resist. Actually, any weekend suits me so long as it IS a weekend and not just a day trip. It's too much in time and road tolls to only be making a day of it.

Now we're getting somewhere...

So far...
6th & 7th September - Mick, Shane, Molli, Me & Christine
20th & 21st September - Mick, Shane, LJH, Molli, Kevin, Me & Christine
27th 28th September - Mick, LJH, Molli, Me & Christine

Also - Yanluk, and maybe Joachim.

So that's the 20th & 21st in the lead by a whisker...?

I'm afraid I messed you up by being a smart arse. It's the 27th and 28th which Kevin has free.

By the way, has anyone checked in with the South Australian lads and lasses to see if they'd like to come along? Adelaide is only an hour further out from The Grampians than where I am so it's not too much of a stretch!

Just a quick question from sunny Spain

When is the next photo flea market on, is it possible it is on a September weekend?

Molli, you need tolls? I live south of the city and can easily avoid toll roads, unless of course, you are taking the ferry!

Dear Mick,
Tolls come into play for two reasons with me:
1) The straighter the run, the less chance there is for me to get lost, and
2) The less stopping and starting and getting stuck in city traffic, the less chance of my car exploding!
