a Deardorff back? It seems my used 5x7 reducing back has been dropped or banged a bit and two pins are flush with the surface. No way can I get a grip on them without removing some of the surrounding wood. Any ideas on how to get a grip? Are these pins threaded for insertion? Or just pressed in? Thanks for any help with this puzzle!

these pins are usually pressed or driven in. You may have to remove some of the surrounding wood to get ahold of the pin with a needlenose plier. After rmoving them you can insert a dowel into the remaining hole & reinsert the pin. A pilot hole would prevent you from cracking the frame.
