It always was a pleasure to look at the Marly facilities.

Did I misunderstand or is the location of the machinery still in Switzerland?? I don't understand how it can be a financially safe location if it is in the bankrupt Ilford site? I hope there is no short-term lease that spoils the fun!

The land was spun off half a year before the bankruptcy to a local investor. The buildings are now rented out to start ups and operated under the name Marly Innovation Center. We are among 30 other companies which are leasing labs and other premises and we have a long term lease contract. Land development will take place around the existing buildings in the future. We have also secured (acquired & rented) crucial components for R&D and the emulsion manufacturing departement.
Relocating the machine is a possible option for example if the swiss Frank keeps going up. The machine has it´s own steel frame onto which everything is mounted (stairs, floors, components etc.). If you cut the roof open you could theoretically lift it right out (that´s not an option though and just for ilustrating purposes).

And only about 5 hours by car from Marly to Film Ferrania!

I run out of fingers when I count current 400 mono films, it is way difficult getting market recognition let alone share %? If you don't sell a master roll quick you are paying interest to bank.

Fuji stopped coating neopan 400 early, there is a thread about batch numbers somewhere... It was nice film.

Note there is also 5222 and filmotechs 400 if you re-spool cine.

If I thought you would expose 5222 at 250 I'd give you a cassette, it is way fine grain.

I wasn't counting with koda or Ilford.
 
Due to stupid european regulations we are obliged by law to call the films in metric sizes first.
Actually it is alreday in the grey area to put the 7x17 at all in the product description. These things are enforced in Germany by private advocats who search the internet for mistakes one might have made and then they send the so called "Abmahnung" and cash in (guess which profession is by far the largest group in the Bundestag?).
Thus we urge you to use the shop-filters (size) in order to look for sheetfilm sizes rather than scrolling through the products.

Just a little bit. Film remains unrealistically competitive in price and the most common speed is 400 ASA. So this is within the niche the largest group and therefore all big players target this group. If you have a bigger machine you can coat at lower costs than we can (given that you make a certain quantity). So the prime target for our new machine is specialty products which the big ones don´t make rather than "yet another" 400 ASA film produced at higher costs. Things change if the pressure of competition changes ofcourse or in other words: if you need us, we´ll be here.

IR films can be sensitized to about 820/830nm without having to be cold stored. Above this spectrum they are destroyed by heat (because they would be sensitive to heat).
With the new coater we could theoretically make such a film on a small scale. We need to be in production with film in general. I have no current quote for the sensitizer so I can´t say how much it would be.
The most important thing would be to know about the market volume. There are fixed upfront costs. The higher the volume, the lower the price.
 
Yes, I.R. pleeeeze ! in sheet 9 x 12cm, 5 x 7.....

CHS 100 type II is on it´s way to Freestyle but the next coating has to be done on the new machine already and supplies might not last until then.
So don´t buy to many :smile:

Very difficult and not within the scope. We are tuned to be perfectly adapted to the market of the future. We manufacture, cut and distribute our products all in one hand, worldwide. Selling film in a drugstore is a thing of the past in my opinion.

Could you operate the machine within a Swiss company structure? - I suppose you still have export costs to less exalted currencies...
