The best laid plans!

After about one week on my back sick, I am getting up and around. I spent nearly 2 weeks total what with getting ill, being ill and recovering now. So, expect delays. I was about 1/3 through the final read of the book with about 50 minor typos to fix when I got sick. I'll do the best I can what with many many doctors appointments.

Take care Ron , may be because of spending hours with sitting. My mother have similar pains and no pain killer helps. Thanks god, She and You are better now. Dont forget fresh air and long walks , you must exercise. Vitamins are important also.

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. I'd missed seeing you posting on threads on here but didn't know what was going on, just figured I was looking at the wrong threads. Take some time and take care of yourself, don't push yourself hard getting this book out the door. The DVDs are available, and you've been working on the book for 5 years, a few more weeks of waiting won't hurt any of us. Better to have the book available later than not at all.

I'm here, on the road to recovery but on a light schedule, and I usually do take walks and exercise. Nothing can be done when a bug grabs you! You go for the ride and consider yourself lucky at the other end.

I try to avoid fluorinated compounds when I can. Well, except teflons...

Make sure you take it easy for a while. And get that neighbor kid to shovel the snow for you this year.

And, if you have ever been prescribed Triamcinolone, well that is the fluorine derivative of prednisone! (and no, I did not have that but I do know the structure)

That is just TOOOO funny, Ron! I think I know that one off the top of my head so I'll give it a try (they prescribed it for me a few years ago)-

9-fluoro-11,16,17-trihydroxy-17-(2-hydroxyacetyl)-10,13-dimethyl-6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17-dodecahydro-cyclopenta(a)-phenanthren-3-one. Since I'm going from memory I might have inadvertently rearranged something.

It also has another name which IIRC has "pregna" somewhere in it but I never bothered trying to memorize that one-
 
I reread Fieser and Fieser "Topics in Organic Chemistry" last month and just remembered that one. My advanced organic was slipping away and this was a good refresher. Tri = 3 steps Amcin = American Cyanamide Olone = Steroid derivateve. That is the naming convention for this puppy!

When I was studying organic chemistry, I asked the professor about using deuterium-oxide to replace hydrogen in a ring to produce orthodox and paradox.
 
I have wondered on occasion how its name was derived, as the "am" and "cin" didn't make sense to me as I didn't see any amine or cinnamic-related stuff in the structure. But I'm just an amateur...

Using that analogy with D2O, you can create p-keet and Ferrous Wheel. My favorite is K9P (nona-potassium phosphide).

Now you see why I am studying up again! :D
