Thanks Strad, I like your pasta, keep at it! Pasta is hard. Making living things emote, that is easy. Pasta is a challenge  I really think if you print your negs they will come to life.
Yes, bellows focusing is a tremendous asset in macro, and so are tilts.
Lately I have been doing quite a lot of macro on one of my 5x7 cameras, that is nice. But one problem with LF macro is that the lenses are quite slow, typically f/5.6 or slower. When you go well past 1:1, things get...
Indeed the RBs are superb for this. Hard to beat bellows focusing for macro, and this is an application for which the overall stability of the body really helps.
If you want really high mag with the rb, you may wish to look at the 65mm KL lens. Also, the extension tubes for the rb are quite...
Why not expose and develop normally, as the gods intended ;) I think you'll not be disappointed. You're probably not doing straight ilfos from these anyway, right?
We are able to do that. But until this point he was not doing that: he marketed his work based on the quality of his method. That is the issue for him, going forward, as I see it.
Kompressor, in this little gallery (still growing) there are several shots on the digibase, you'll be able to tell which from the colour rendition. Most were shot in 645 format. Originally I took up interest in the digibase for a "pos or neg" project, but after I shot some test rolls while...
For quite some time Ctein branded himself as a superlative dye-transfer printer, maybe even the last great colour printer overall. Last time I checked there was truly no limit to the hyperbole. That said, I have heard from many that the prints, when viewed in person, are indeed very special...
Paper texture significantly degrades the quality of a scanned image; RC scans okay but many FB and especially FB matte papers do not. Many of us who print to matte paper post neg scans in the APUG gallery for that reason. RC scans almost as well as film, in my experience, at least for the...
What's with all these pet shots of late? Alright, here's mine then. This is my dad having a snooze, with his protector on his lap. She bared her teeth at me every time the shutter went off; apparently she didn't care for the sound. Dad was asleep and oblivious.
Oh and her name is Coco...
Glad you had a good experience with it. I did not and it may be because they were lab dev'ed. Next time through I will do it myself. I *love* the maskless negs, but... even in 120 format, the film was very grainy for the speed (I rated it at 200). I was disappointed with grain. The colours...
Yes, you can get the back on there, but no, you won't get past ~78mm length on the film. So it is not very logical unless you simply want to avoid the 6x8 back which is battery powered and quite heavy.
I haven't heard that myself, and the two I had were well used but had no issues at all. And I do not treat my cameras kindly. My standard kit was a 645W and a Zi.
If anyone is more interested in the Fujicas, you might have a look at the dantestella website.
After a year or two with the...
Fujica GA645S, W or Zi. Or a GSW690 or GW690.
Let me also suggest an instax for diary snaps. It may motivate you as you go.
A TLR is light? You do realize that's an extra lens you carry.... RFs are far lighter in general, and the available focal lengths are similar.
Rolleijoe, I know that your comment about lenses is "just your honest opinion" yet I find it hard to read without replying. What you say is not what impartial third-party data show:

(N.b. I have two of the mamiya lenses in their...
Chill Richard. We can work on a snippet and get it exactly right. I have all the chems Darwin mentioned above.
The good news for you is that grain usually doesn't amount to a hill of beans in 8x10.
Oh and why don't you buy the damn gossen that has made my life so simple, rather than futzing...
Thanks Mike and Kal, much appreciated. I look forward to printing it. I showed it to the carver, who speaks only Tibetan, and he made that universally-understood thumbs up gesture. I was relieved; apparently I earned myself a few more visits to his shop. Thought he might be tired of me...
That my eyes remain healthy, my income remains steady, and that someone will continue to find a bit of value in what I do with film.
There is no methodone for photography; if I can't feed my habit, I'm truly afraid of the withdrawal...
Polyglot, I haven't gotten any lately but there is still the 5" aerial film that can (and sometimes is) cut down for 120. It's a pretty nice cut, 5"= 127mm, and the 5" film typically has perfs that you'd like to avoid anyway. If somebody wants to join me in a bulk cut of panatomic x or any of...
No, no, I am not saying do a digital print. I am saying you can make a contrast mask... I would *never* suggest that anyone's final b&w print be digital. Never!!!! Neeeveerrrrr!
Okay anyway, sometimes it's better to let one go ;)
Sure. But you'd likely want to do that on an enlarged neg, preferably on ortho film, which is easily retouchable. If you make your dupe neg big enough to contact print, then you'll find it infinitely easier to retouch.
You could also inkjet yourself a dodge/burn mask and print through that...
Oh, when I described the cut-up strategy, I had in mind that the whole roll had already been exposed. So suppose you had a scene you like and you want to do separate development on differently exposed versions. Then you just shoot brackets and multiples and take good notes of your exposures...
I have some big lightboxes, they are abundant in my (physics) dept. You could also look for the ones docs use to look at xray images. You could also make your own LF projector.
I do get lightjet/chromira prints done now and then, they can be quite successful at very large enlargement. For...
Ah good to know, thanks David. Never seen one of those. I do have some combiplans and type 55 clearing gizmos that sound similar. My goal with the spirals is to keep dev volume reasonably low. Tray dev of 4" and 5" panos eats up a lot of developer.
Thanks guys! Yes, Rich, the tranny is much more impressive than the scan. For the longest time I thought it was a failure because of the falloff. I am slowly warming to it.
Bill, as you know, Mono Lake sits right beside a mountain range and the lenticulars form in great abundance over that...
Okay, good to know, Rick. Incidentally, a few months ago, I modified spools for "can" development of 4" and 5" width films, which is of interest to me because I shoot pano in these widths. The bowing is too much with most films, so they don't go easily onto the spools, but an enterprising...
