50 mm f/4.5 ULD L (2 versions, the older one is inferior in terms of contrast and resolution), the ULD version has an additional floating system focus ring, 24 mm equivalent

i was looking for the same thing a few months ago as well.
what i was able to find out, after renting the 50mm ULD(Ultra Low Distortion), I am floored by how beautiful this lens is. it has a slight bit of bowing with the straight lines, but nothing that is very noticeable. with the standard...
and the thing is, the 800z is a somewhat saturated, and higher contrast film. if you correct at the time of exposure, then you'll get much better negs. and as stated above already, you won't have much to color correct, especially in the darker tones, and especially shadows.
if you can, try...
even with a "bargain basement price, i'd still pass on it. if you want a 6x6 camera, get a hasselblad 503cw or a 553/555 elx/eld. you can get a motor winder for the 503 as well, even the most current v-series zeiss glass, which is just as good as the glass they are putting in the current line-up...
just meter through the gel before you expose, making sure to put the gel back over the lens though, as i inadvertently didn't yesterday, ooops. it'll be alright, slides will be a little bluer than i'd like, but the kodachrome should manage alright

well, since i don't shoot 8x10 all that regularly, and when i need to enlarge it, i rent a darkroom with an 8x10 enlarger, i might not be the most qualified person to talk about this subject. i'll share what i think anyhow :). 8x10 enlargers, horizontal or vertical, are big mothers. but you...
a good assistant has to be able to interpret the photographer. this usually happens after working with the photographer on a few occasions. similar to dating a new girl :). you get to know them, through good times, and the not so good(like another assistant forgot to pack the other case of...
the rule of thumb that I've always come across when working on jobs as and assistant, as well as my own shoots, is: NEVER USE A POLAROID TO JUDGE EXPOSURE!!!
this is even with the newer fuji instant films, which IMO are much more accurate than the Polaroid equivalents of days past....
when...
Its also about the look too... Many people that I've assisted for use the digi backs because it makes them look better to the art directors. But being that anyone with a couple grand in hand can get one of these backs today, its becoming a more regular thing. Heck, I just watched a 33mp Leaf...
most of the photographers that i've assisted for use film for that exact reason! they want a print-ready picture right then and there... with very minimal or no photoshop at all, just a few spotting for dust and maybe a curves adjustment, but more than that, not very often...
digital is what...
i would say the contrary to that... look at steve mccurry from National Geographic? he's shot for years on kodachrome before going digital, especially that shot of the afghan girl, before going digital. even on the kodak site they have a slideshow of kodachrome images he's shot over the years...
ya,
it is handy for those proof sheets! i think that if more people out here in the west coast was to use it, then i think it could gain some popularity.
i'll try a pack from b&h, but if i feel that its not worth it, i'll just trim 11x14 down to 9.5x12, and use the rest for test strips...
hey all,
do any of you that are located in so cal happen to know a storefront where i could get some 9.x5x12 paper?
do any of you know if freestyle carries it?
i know its on the b&h site, but frankly i don't know if i want to pay for shipping.
my other option would be to stick with...
hey, i'm as american as they come :). i still prefer metric though. 5.240 doesn't seem right compared to 1.000. 10's are easier for me to wrap my brain around compared to 12's and 1/8's,etc...... :)
try to find a used gitzo all the way. i gots a series V for a steal a few weeks back with a pan-tilt head, and this thing is ROCK-SOLID! my friends 12x20 camera is right at home on this thing! its a heavy mother(22 lbs or so), and being aluminum, its great in all weather conditions. if i had...
hey all,
i've been testing out some of the various slide films lately, and i've come upon the results that I've liked what I've been getting off of E100G and Fuji Provia. But being that after school is done for the summer(night classes), I want to make a trip up to the bristlecones(sierras)...
i still use the last of my type 54 and type 55 :(. Now the pa-45 holder from fuji with their color and b/w films. I think that the QC from fuji is better than that from Polaroid, at least in the last 2 years or so. Sometimes its nice when doing a shot where you still 2nd guess yourself and your...
I believe that A&I in L.A. can take 4X5 via mail. call them...

also, Carl's Darkroom is VERY FAST! i shipped the film (4x5 and 120) e6 via USPS Priority, and I had it back in my hands within 4 days or so. Very accomodating, and very friendly people. Pretty reasonable pricing as...
I've tried watching those. I'm on a mac system currently, so being able to watch .wmv files is kind of a pain. I'll watch them at a friends house when I get the chance.
I have my eye on either a Howtek D8000(the 8000 dpi one) or the Aztek Premier 8000. Being that quite a few labs have been...
Any type of drum scanner actually. I have my eye on getting an Aztek Premier eventually down the road (after school is paid off :)). But a Howtek, Aztek, or Crosfield would be what I'm really after.
But any type would do actually. I just really want to learn how its done.

hey all,
i'm new to this forum, been on apug for a while, but now that i'm getting more into the digital side of film, i've come over for a look see! :)
does anyone on here know of a lab or a person that would be able to teach me the basics of drum scanning? I've been using an Imacon at my...
doesn't Kodak reccomend that the TMAX developer not be used in rotary processors? please correct me if I'm misquoting.
thanks everyone for the help, if anyone else has some advice, please say so.
the CPP2 i'm using is level, and i'm using the 2509n reels(black baffle inserts). the reels...
hey all,
i've noticed that lately when processing 4x5 color and b/w negs, i have been getting uneven development along the edge rebates. not all the time, but enough to make me mad.
what is the hype regarding the expert tanks? are they THAT much better? how do they differ than the standard...
wow,
i really wish that i had a program like that when i was in high school (i graduated in 2006). i'm just starting to shoot 8x10, having moved up from 4x5 quite rapidly... it sure has pared down the amount of negatives that i have to process :)! the main thing that i appreciate the most...
what's the difference? I've seen both, and seem to remember that Kodak brought out Final Rinse for their re-done color neg films.
PE, can you chime in on this one if you know?
I still have a serious problem with nasty dust particles landing on my 4x5 and 120 negs. Whilst scanning, its a real...
I've been using distilled water to mix the final rinse. I don't understand why there is the residue. Its a pain in the but though.
Also, I let my negs hang to drip by one corner for about 15 minutes, then when most of the final rinse has dripped off, then I turn on the dryer(which is...
