You'll probably want to use a maskless colour neg if you do it traditionally; otherwise the mask will cause issues. To my knowledge there is only one such film on the market right now, namely Rollei digibase. I have used it a few times with this purpose in mind (albeit not with the b&w step...
If weight is the concern, Thingy, then there are plenty of much lighter options. Given your macro interests, I'd say check out the 645 pro (or similar) and the 80/4 macro lens. That is my traveling macro kit. Also, when you say low level, I assume you mean (there was a url link here which no...
645 does not mean that the image sizes on the film are actually 6 cm by 4.5 cm. The aspect ratio is consistent and the actual image sizes are close, but they are always a few mm shorter than the stated format size, on both sides of the image area. And there is also some minor variation in...
It is clear that each of the musical composers cited here contributed to the lexicon and that those contributions were carried forward by others. But there would still be strong motivation to progress, absent any one artist's contribution.
On this subject of trailblazers clearing paths for...
My parents have retold the wedding version of this tale many times... the photographer shot the whole thing with no film loaded. They had to go back and re-enact.
Well, with all due respect to Picasso, I don't care to look back nostalgically at my youth and lament each passing moment ;)
But this reminds me of a comment in an interview with Kertész: "Technique isn't important, go on and make mistakes. I've been making mistakes since 1912." There is some...
For many SLRs, particularly newer ones, it is perfectly normal. This allows you to see a bright image in the viewfinder, making it easier to focus and compose. Many cameras configured this way also have DOF preview buttons so that you can momentarily look at the effect of the aperture in the...
Do consider the 645 pro very carefully. I don;t remember the specific reasons why, but after I laid out all the specs for all the 645 cameras, the pro was the best option for me. It's been a while so I don't remember the relative strengths and weaknesses of each model, just know that there are...
Well the thing is the pods just become brittle. I am not sure if refrigeration helps or doesn't but... freezing is a definite no-no. Anyway, according got me, the big failing of polaroid film was not the films themselves but the freaking holders. Horribly unreliable. I wound up disassembling...
I'm afraid the poll will simply reflect where people have been!
There are number of places around the globe that are changing radically right now due to politics or climate or development or encroachment on animals. If you have ethnographic and social interests to supplement your photography...
Hmm well I have a box or two in the fridge... I will undercut John by 2% ;)
Incidentally, Jim, what you say is not consistent with my experience. I have refrigerated 665 going way back several years, it's still very good. I still use 2-3 year old stuff. Likewise the 55. I've had far more...
I also like rotary.. and it is much safer. One really nice thing about them is that when you do need to replace the roller, it's inexpensive. I use a rotary unit to cut 8x10 to 4x10 and to cut 5" roll film to various lengths. I get a perfect cut about 95% of the time.
(Guillotines can...
Haha, great photo Kal.

I toured so many MF cameras, I don't know if I can remember them all. Pretty much all of the fujis, the hassies, the pentaxes, the mamiyas, and some mini view cameras as well. It took me more than a year to begin to settle in my preferences. Looking back, I adored...
Because it is a lot harder to touch up a neg than to touch up a print. You can have tiny pinholes on the neg that, when enlarged, become big black spots on the print.
I had it an lost interest in it very quickly. The movements are very limited, and there are only two short-barrel lenses that are not in the most useful focal lengths. If you really want to do movements with RB/RZ lenses, consider adapting them to another camera.
Consider South America. Not only will the prices be surprisingly good, but you also have a chance to see many things that many Americans never do (as opposed to Europe, which has a steady stream of young american tourists in the summertime). There are so many attractions, it's hard to begin to...
Okay maybe it's not a push per se, but doesn't slide film lose a stop or two of effective speed when you x-process it in c41? Here is a recent, related thread...
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
So you either rate it a stop or two slower or develop longer.... and with...
Why not cross process in c41, with a ~2 stop push or so. Just a guess.... something interesting may result. C41 is about as easy and inexpensive as b&w. I mean, you can do c41 at home for peanuts.
There is no waste. If you avail yourself of a guillotine, you can cut the paper to whatever size you need, and the leftovers make great test strips.
But indeed, the 6x7 / 6x8 format is very nice, and being able to rotate the back... genius! That feature adds significant bulk to the body...
Glad this is helpful! Note that you can also put transparency film over the paper, if you are nervous-handed or having trouble seeing well under the red filter ;) Actually that might be a god idea if you are doing a number of prints with a lot of spots and want some reproducibility and...
