He is a long-time member of a camera repair forum I'm very active in, and only recently he has opened a formal (registered with its own tax number, etc) repair shop. He has serviced many New F-1 cameras and I can vouch that this guy knows them inside-out. I service many cameras but don't dare to...
Yes, i like that screen! It is very bright, i can focus anywhere. And the grid lines help me with composition.
BTW I just got a Pentax LX, which some collectors (like the prestigious and prolific Les Sarile) claim the best viewfinder image clarity on a 35mm SLR. Sorry! The finder on my F-1N...
Ship your camera to LZ Fotomehanika in Slovenia (specialized in F-1 cameras) and it will be mechanically satisfying too.

The owner is my friend and is a New F-1 specialist.
Leicaflexes are reliable cameras. I've read a soviet study on camera reliability where the Leicaflex was included, as well as the Nikon F2, Canon F-1, and other western cameras. The Leicaflex fared perfectly, even better than the F2.
However, this was done with working cameras in the 70s. Such...
There's something worse than derailing a thread talking about politics. And it is... buying non-OEM superwideangle lenses!!
Yesterday I bought a Pentax SMC Fish-eye 17/4. Only the best for my Pentax LX!!
Really, most super wides require 8 or more lens elements. With this amount of complexity...
Of course. Most non-OEM lenses do have a lot of sample variation. This is due to less stringent tolerances and QC procedures, even due down to the way the lens is constructed.
While on the opposite end of spectrum, on lenses like made-in-germany Zeiss or Leitz lenses, there's little sample...
Dear LesDMess...
I finally got myself a Pentax LX, after years of reading you extolling the virtues of the mighty LX.
My short comparison to the previous pro SLRs i liked: Canon New F-1, F-1 and Nikon F3, F2SB. But in particular, compared to the New F-1, since it was my pick for "favorite pro...
This. It doesn't make sense.
As @koraks said, you either make an ECN2 film or you make a C41 film (forget about the remjet layer, i mean about the dye coupler themselves, etc). These two processes use a different color developer.
You can make an ECN2 film that looks acceptable on C41 process...
Exactly. That's what I mentioned too. The camera just requires routine service. Switches corrode over time, or get dirty, and some times misadjust due to wear (something that can be compensated for).
FE2 and FE are excellent cameras.
I consider the FE2 a superior camera. As well as FE>FM.
Nikon thought so too, the FE was priced higher, and received interchangeable screens when the FM had not.
Even I, a staunch detractor of the OM System, will have to concede that this is a genius idea.
This also means that the electronics are never off, but that isn't a bad thing. Yoshihisa Maitani mentioned (on an interview regarding the conception of the OM system) that he prefers cameras that...
The OMs probably required service by a competent repairman. It's not normal that an electronic camera leaks batteries.
As you already mentioned, other electronic cameras like the ES-II can have great battery life.
I had great battery life with the Nikon FE for example. Another fully electronic...
In the past this was the only way to develop...
You will find in some film datasheets suggestions for development for condenser vs diffuser enlargers. Condenser enlargers are supposed to produce contrastier results by design.
I had a lab that produced very good B/W prints. I asked the lab to...
God forbid me to use such a thing again. I had a Soligor 21mm in M42 mount and it was a horrible lens.
For reference, the other super wide angles i've had: Canon FL 19/3.5R, Nikon 20/4 AI, Nikkor-UD 20/3.5, Pentax M 20/4, Flektogon 20/4.
The Flektogon wasn't very good either, sold it promptly.
With the remark that many professionals used the Spotmatic back in the 60s, even in war scenarios. It was much more compact and lighter than a Nikon F with Photomic TTL meter -- which wasn't even invented when the Spotmatic was released. It has proven to be highly reliable, and the Super-Takumar...
If "Cheap lenses" is a requirement i'd recommend a Nikon body. Small and light = FE/FM, with inferior build qualty EM/FG, and with comical build quality FM10/FE10 (lightest)
As for your other choices: Canon, Nikon, and Pentax were the top 3 japanese manufacturers.
Canon had a R&D budget bigger...
They are at insanely high prices right now, prices that even I, a hardcore Canon FD fanatic, can't justify.
I'd recommend to sell before the hype deflates. Because there's no way to substantiate current prices for those lenses other than by hype, and hype eventually dies out.
Even...
This applies to the Contessa folder models.

PCM = version with Synchro Compur
PCR = earlier version with Compur-Rapid
The price is obscenely low, like 15 times lower than it should, where did you buy it?
Congratulations, i also have the same Olympic model and it's my favorite 35mm SLR. Love it to death! Does the AE finder matches? (The Olympic model's finders have a golden Canon logo, instead of white logo...
