New (as of 2019) airport CT scanners

Reporting in right now from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). They had the horrible, dreadful CT scanner and the scanner had a big banner that read "I KILLED KODACHROME AND TECHNICAL PAN". So the machine is the work of the devil. I asked the airport personnel to please check my photographic films...

Common issues with Canon FD 50/1.4 SSC or bad luck?

It is common with this model. You just need to hunt for one without haze. Personally i prefer the New FD version. The other 50/1.4 lens that tends to suffer from haze is the Pentax-M and Pentax-A 50/1.4. Many, many lenses with haze.

Adjusting shutter curtain tension on a Contax IIa and IIIa

Hi, I repair cameras and work on those models so I can contribute. This is my advice: 1. Don't increase curtain tension 2. Don't 3. Never increase curtain tension 4. Why would you want to increase curtain tension? Ok, so you want to diminish curtain tension. Great. Read on. If this is a...

Significant price reduction on 120 lomography colour films

It was about time... I stopped shooting film altogether in march or so. And stopped participating here. I just came here to see if everybody was struggling like me with ridiculous film prices.

Any comment on Kiev 80 or 88 ?

I bought two Salyut-S cameras, both supposedly worked. The first one worked but after firing it for about 30-60 times in total, one of the shutter straps snapped and now the shutter is inoperative. The second one was bought "working" but it has severe shutter capping and the curtain seems to...

Zenza Bronica ETRS - shutter does not fire but mirror reacts

It was a mechanical issue and most likely inside the lens (shutter). It would be better if the owner tried with a different lens.

    110/16mm Camera Image Quality

Technical nerd here, let me take over. Indeed your properly scanned 16mm image looks better than the poorly scanned 35mm images I see from time to time (i.e. using Epson flatbed scanners). It looks good.

    Pentax 6x7

The way the wooden grip is offset (much forward than the image plane in the horizontal axis), will help restraining the vertical movement/shock of the mirror. As you said... Pentax knew what they were doing. However it would be great that they made the wooden grip a required accessory, not...

    Cameras you don't click with.

I like my Nikon FE so much that currently is my only Nikon. I've sold many of my nikons including a rather rare F2SB, F3, rare F3P, and other typical Nikons (FM2, FG, Nikomats). Only the FE stayed. I do have a small annoyance with the way the advance lever also powers the camera -- i've lost a...

    Pentax 6x7

Hi Drew, Years have passed and now I actually work (repair) those cameras. I discovered something very interesting... Some Pentax 6x7 cameras (that ended on my hands) had much gentler mirror "slap". Well, i've discovered that the mirror actuation force can actually be adjusted (!!). It is not...

    Kentmere 100 & 400 in 120 format

Indeed, these Kentmere films will give Fomapan a very harsh competition, considering that in B&H photo the Kentmere 100 in 120 is announced at a significantly lower price than Fomapan 100.

The Ilford 120 film issue - which films have people seen affected?

That's why I always think 220 films should not be overlooked. With 220, the paper is only used at the leading and trailing end, reducing the problems that you get when every bit of film is touched by backing paper.

Good evening, we are from Ukraine!

Welcome to the forum. The Arsenal factory in Kiev created the best cameras of the Soviet Union, like the Kiev-15, Kiev-60 and Salyut cameras. Lenses, too. I, as an engineer, admire the Ukrainian ingenuity, proven for example in the Antonov An-225. I bought some stuff from Ukraine some months...

Ferrania P30: curve shape and (un)coated lenses

To summarize my previous post, let's see this graphic: Light transmission of the 1960 Nikkor-S 58/1.4 (single-coated) versus the circa-2010 Nikkor AF-S 50/1.4G (nikon modern super integrated coating) More than 50 years of diffference... Yet the light transmission is the same at the 500nm...

Ferrania P30: curve shape and (un)coated lenses

You should not mix "single-coated" with "uncoated" lenses in the same basket. There are single-coated lenses that are very contrasty. Single-coating has the same effectivity than multi-coating at a specific wavelength (i.e. green color). Some older lenses (i.e. Nikkors) had all their...

Which lenses were you using? Focusing should be great, a Kiev with a service rangefinder has a great, very contrasty rangefinder. I agree in the rest, it is unfriendly. That's why I prefer my Contax IIa and IIIa bodies, the ergonomics are better in every way.

    Pentax ME Super

Dear GT, Keep in mind that the Pentax-M and Pentax-A 50/1.4 lenses do, very frequently, suffer from haze at the last cemented group. I own two of such (hazy) samples, and have seen many more, either here or on eBay. This, as you know, will negatively affect performance. It will give lower...

Which problem did you have with the 50/1.4? I have the Pentax-A 50/1.4 and it's one of the best 50mm's i've ever owned -- and this means a very long list of fast 50 lenses from many manufacturers -- including Nikkor-S 50/1.4, SC 50/1.4, FD 50/1.4, FDn 50/1.4, FDn 50/1.2, FD 55/1.2, FL 55/1.2...

This is not correct. The K2 is an entirely diferent body. It does not have interchangeable parts with the other machines. It uses a vertical shutter, not a horizontal shutter, for example.

I'm very active in forums regarding the Bronica ETR system and this is the first time I read about this. The multiple exposure lever isn't easy to activate. In fact, when you fit the "speed grip" the lever becomes almost impossible to acitvate, which I consider a design flaw, so go figure...

Let's discuss MANUAL-FOCUS ONLY, THIRD PARTY ONLY, Super-Wide-Angle Lenses

@lxdude post scriptum The 28/3.5 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar and the 35/3.5 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar are superb lenses. They were so good that Pentax used the same optical design, scaled-up, for their 55/3.5 and 75/4.5 lenses on the Pentax 6x7 system. Thiis is somewhat comical, because both...

Let's discuss MANUAL-FOCUS ONLY, THIRD PARTY ONLY, Super-Wide-Angle Lenses

I'll add an interesting story... Once i went to my local photo lab to pick my negatives. Some rolls were shot with a Nikon F2, others with a Canon F-1, other with a Canon New F-1, and lastly one with a Spotmatic F. The Nikon and Canon images were made using good Nikon and Canon lenses...

In mamiya's defense, it has a second shutter button to help with portrait orientation. In your defence, when I tried my friend's M645, i found my Bronica much much more comfortable and sophisticated.

Let's discuss MANUAL-FOCUS ONLY, THIRD PARTY ONLY, Super-Wide-Angle Lenses

This, but unironically. Reminder that during the financially-troubled years of Zeiss at the start of the 1970s, they had a business alliance with Pentax. Part of the collaboration was the K mount (designed by Zeiss), and the K-mount 28/2.0 ("Hollywood") and 15/3.5 lenses, designed by Zeiss...
