I shot a roll of Kentmere 400 through it. It was raining on and off, so low light weather. The pics were no where near as sharp as when I use it in nice sunny weather. Understandable because the lens is now being used wide open (I assume), but still disappointing if you are planning on big prints.
I guess I am just used to shooting in sunshine!

Looks like a pretty nice day in your D96 images. Visible clouds and a bit of sun. So far in the last week and a half we’ve had forty mile an hour eastern winds, snow, ice, fifty mile an hour southern winds, three inches of rain in two days, fog and drizzle. I have enough branches down in my back yard to build a hut for a hobbit. Some times I think a weather resistant camera would b appropriate. The sun will be out in Southern California soon.

Yeah, It's actually very responsive and focuses quickly. Just not good in dim daylight as the lens (at least on mine) does not seem very good wide open. I have noticed that the closer you are, the sharper it is in heavily overcast light. But in sunny weather? It's very nice. Again, sample of one so I'm looking forward to seeing how your pics come back.

Nikonos V. Awesome camera in all weather. The 35mm 2.5 lens is superb.

I’m really surprised by the disdain for the Nikon FE, I guess it really demonstrates how subjective these reactions can be. (The “left eyed” critique sounds like a real issue.). I’ve used FEs and FE2s more than any other film camera, so I’m biased. But I would never think to put them on a tier higher than Pentaxes, Minoltas, or Olympi, all of which are excellent and superior to Canons. I’d love to have a Pentax MX, maybe I’ll get one this year.

Cameras I haven’t clicked with:

Canons: I think if you like Nikon, maybe Canons feel awkward and vice versa? Shutter priority? Time Value? I don’t get it. For the life of me, I don’t understand the appeal of the AE-1.

Rangefinders: The romance of the “Leica” thing appeals to me and at one point I owned a M3 with a nice selection of lenses. But I hated using it. The frame lines thing doesn’t work for me, especially with the longer lenses. The argument that you can see outside of the composition has some merit, but I’d much rather have the “what you see is what you get experience” of the SLR and TLR. And I like some exposure automation. I still feel the pull though and I have to routinely remind myself that Leica aren’t for me. The film loading? In any case, they’re too expensive for me with kids to send to college. My only regret is selling the M3 in 2009, I’d rather have sold it now.

Contaflexes: I inherited two of these… the lenses are great, but they were painful to use and quite heavy.

Cameras without advance levers or mechanisms for preventing double exposure. I picked up a Yashica A because I don’t want to have my Rollei near sand, and I’ve had a devil of a time trying to remember whether I’ve already advanced the film.

Hasselblad 500c: it was overkill for me and there are too many parts. The film back idea is great for studio photographers but for me it was just a liability, an extra thing that could get jammed. Also, I’ve never felt limited by the 75mm Xenotar on my Rollei, so it’s a better MF choice for me.

Autofocus SLRs: manual focus is better for what I do. I’m either taking pictures of still things or of people in fluid situations generally in daylight. So using a moderately wide angle and small aperture is just faster and more predictable. If I find myself needing AF I’m probably using a digital camera anyway.

The 28mm lens that I have is the UW and I would like the LW. I also have the 35mm and 80mm lenses. I like to use it for rainy weather.

That Kodak and Nikonos look like they've been beaten long and hard with an ugly stick. I'm not sure I'd want either one close to my face.

We must be sending all our bad weather south of the border.

Please do not stop! We need the rain. Back to cameras that you do not click with.

I've gone through LOADS of cameras, nearly all are but a memory. Perhaps a sad memory in some cases, in others a good riddance.

X-Pan - Sorry to see it go, but in four years I put two rolls through it. Happily sold it for TWICE what I paid for it.

F3 - Yikes! The viewfinder was easily the worst part of this otherwise decent camera. To Nikon's shame, they produced this turd for 20 years without updating the viewfinder information display.

Mamiya 645 Pro TL - Nice system. Used it twice in ten plus years.

Maxxum 7000 and 167MT - awful control design, required multiple button presses to change shutter speed.

EOS Elan - I dunno what the problem was, I simply never enjoyed shooting with it. The Elan 7N that followed it was a much more enjoyable camera.

There's a bunch more, but I'm already in danger of being burned as a heretic.

Oh go on. It was just getting interesting. And who doesn’t like a good fire?

Well now we know that you could never get a job as a camera buyer for camera stores. The Nikonos V that I posted was purchased in the last year from KEH as a grade EX.

Ha. It's in EX condition because people don't actually use them. They just carry them around so they'll look attractive in comparison.

I kid, I kid. You know I'd have one in a heartbeat for the right price.))

I use mine in the rain and when I travel to New Orleans and Hawaii. I was in Kauai in November.

I like my Nikon FE so much that currently is my only Nikon. I've sold many of my nikons including a rather rare F2SB, F3, rare F3P, and other typical Nikons (FM2, FG, Nikomats). Only the FE stayed. I do have a small annoyance with the way the advance lever also powers the camera -- i've lost a full set of batteries this month only because the lever was accidentally left on.

Currently my only working 35mm SLRs are the Nikon FE (1), Pentax LX (1), Canon New F-1 (2), and Canon T70 (1).

Which brings me to your opinion on Canon. I don't feel much appeal for the AE-1, either. For an amateur camera i'd rather use the T70. On the other hand the Canon New F-1 is probably my favorite pro small-format SLR. The Pentax LX is tough competition, however.

When going from Nikon to Canon the change is on the focusing direction. Canon uses the leica direction, while Nikon and Pentax use the Zeiss (contax) direction. This is a minor thing, but the major thing is that the aperture ring goes also on reversed direction when you switch systems.

Other than that, the cameras I have are very simple ergonomically so besides the aperture direction, switching cameras is not really an issue.

I dont click with most manual focus SLR. I tolerate the medium format manual focus SLRs because the results are good.
