these I bought at yard/estate sales for reasonable prices: the M3 DS with a mint 50/2 collapsible Summicron $450. the Contax IIa color dial with a 50 f1.5 sonnar also mint $75 the Kodak stereo Brownie 2a(a truly rare Brownie one of 4000 made, this one is of the first 1000, dates 1904) $25. the polaroid 110a $15 >the Thornton Pickard shutter $1 The Visoflex with 65 Canadian Elmar $150 a C Simlar collapsible 50 f/3.5 $20 Couldn't find the Leotax to go with it, but there was a leotax body cap. not pictured a Rollei 35S German $30, an Olympus XA $3, A miranda sensorex $20 a perfex 55 $5, a visoflex I with bellows and slide duplicator, valoy ii with focotar 4.5 $10.

The places to go are older neighborhoods where engineers lived.
ideally ones who were posted by the military to Germany or Japan in the 1950-s

David

So... if/when we head up to Huntsville, we really oughta hit some yard sales.

Good news on my Minolta: Both lenses and the teleconverter are free of fungus. When I got some decent light on 'em and went to clean them, I found that the dreaded threads were actually what appeared to be stringy paper lint. There's a touch of dust on the inside, but it isn't nearly as horrible as I'd feared. I LOVE this viewfinder!
Just loaded it with some film, and I'll be testing it tomorrow.

This was a gift from an acquaintance of ours, not a garage sale find: I was just given last night a near-mint Fuji Fujica Compact 35 with original instruction booklet and a 3-roll x-ray protector for film. I haven't had the camera out in sunlight yet, but its selenium light meter appears to be working and all seems to be in working order.

I picked up a Canon Rebel 2000 with 28-80 lens for $20 at Goodwill. Added batteries and film and it was ready to go.

My best pickup was a gaggle of stuff from a 'studio closing' sale last spring, I got some well worn but functional light stands, umbrella swivels and odds and ends, the crown jewels were a Nikon 35/1.4 AI-s (aperture diaphram not functioning) and a Nikon 105/2.5 factory Ai-d (shattered red#25 filter stuck on). Add on a cool Nikon Lens-Scope Converter and the whole lot was $105...

$140 later the 35/1.4 was fixed and CLA'd, I got the filter of the 105/2.5 myself and found it otherwise fully functional, and I sold the Scope Converter for $350! I've gotten a TON of use out of the 35 and 105 combo on my FM2 and the light stands have been invaluable.

I probably won't see another one like that in the near future but I'll be looking!

Not quite garage sale, but close enough - Nikon FA with motor drive and Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm for $50 and a Minolta 20mm f/2.8, TWO auto winder G's, one of which was new in box never opened (that conveniently fit the pristine X-570 I had recently bought for $50) and a black SRT-102 with 50mm f/1.7 for $160.

Stopped by the local Habitat for Humanity store the other day and found a Nikon L35AF, with 1A filter, marked $2.00. When I took it to checkout, the clerk informed me it was on half-price sale. Except for a loose battery door, easily held shut with black electrical tape, it works perfectly.

Yes! that exhibit looks awesome, I've been interested in her ever since I saw a post about her body of work, and that tv news clip. Should be cool, I'll send you a pm or facebook message to figure out a time that your free to go. I can always go before work, but the gallery closes before I get out. thanks for the head up about this! Im sure fellow apuger's would like to see her work too! You should post this to the Manhattan meetup group!

My best garage sale finds were all made about 20 years ago.

At the time, M42 lenses were so unfashionable no one wanted them and most camera shops in the UK refused to deal with them. I bought six Carl Zeiss lenses for £19 each. These were from different sources, £19 sounds better that £20 I guess and seemed to be the standard price.

Just recently I managed to sell these on eBay for over £100 each. Suddenly everyone wants a Carl Zeiss Sonnar or Flektagon and M42 are the most popular, as they are the easiest to get a mount for. One Flektagon went for £180.

Bizarre thing is, for every lens I have that is badged as 'Carl Zeiss' - I have an identical one badged 'Pentacon'. Whilst we all know they are essentially the same thing - on eBay anything Pentacon is almost worthless...

Well I didn't know that, maybe I'll pick up some Pentacon lenses now

edit: just looked at some sample pics from the 200mm f4, that is some serious bokeh...

picked up a new toy for pocket change...came in Nikon mount (for my FE2) and since I had Nikon adapters for my Canon Dslr...well....

Appears to be soft on one side...well both sides but moreso at the right (bottom) of frame...will try another adapter, though I doubt I'll see any improvement...

still, a nice toy...

Picked up a Exakta VX with C.Z. Jena Biotar 58mm f/2.8 lens this morning at a local yard sale for $10. This camera has the old style front face with modern pc outlets.

Everything works with no damage to the curtains and the glass cleaned up nice..

Time to take it out for a test run...........
