Whenever I compare photography to music, I consider the sound of tape hiss as the equivalent of grain/film size. So Minox is comparable to a scratchy old acoustic '78, 35mm is like a cassette deck, 400 speed is like normal bias tape, 100 speed film handled with some care is like a cassette deck with Dolby. 4x5 is like reel-to-reel.

You can hear the difference in tape formats, you can see the difference in film formats...
Taking the analogy further: What would be the equivalent of bias current, AC, DC or HX-Pro?
And how would you go about doing the equivalent of Dolby hiss suppression?

Too funny how the realm of photography, for people in forums, revolves around just a few names.

“eggleston ended the BW reign...” this is so funny.

Well, black and white "artistic" nude photos are porn that doesn't make money. Nothing makes you more of an artist as a photographer than taking pictures of naked girls - that's a well-known fact.

when I was a kid I found porn mags in a hollowed out log in the woods they were't very artistic
have they changed since then?

I know it'll sound strange, but I found porn mags on a path in the woods when I was a kid. How odd....

Not making. But judging.
Though there are big elements of judging and co-creating in both creation and “consuming”.
?
I thought the D-K idea was that the more ignorant you are at a subject you can read a little about it and think you are an expert...
what's that have to do with creating and consuming ? that no talent hacks think they are artists and people reinforce this when they buy their art?

The stupider you are, the more of a cocksure expert you are at appraising and critiquing art.

Good analogy.
But hardly original.
And somewhat off AFAICS.
Minox is Metal Microcassette.
36x24 is Compact Cassette.
Half frame is CC at half speed.
65x24 is Tascam Portastudio
Medium format is reel to reel of various types.
Large format is various wide multitrack studio tape formats.

color can more easily portrays emotion, red-anger, green-envy, yellow-lightness and happiness...

in b+w, producing an emotion/feeling for the viewer is the welcome challenge.
I dont see that, to me the less colour the more emotion. Old Hollywood photographers were very good at emphasizing emotion in stills. These days they seem to rely on moving images to portray emotion. Picasso toned down colour in his blue period to emphasize emotion.
Colour is largely superficial, to me its best used from starting at a B&W perspective. .......Could be just me, Im good at reading people without any props or colour.

If you want to pretend you were offering a compliment you can do that.

I wasn't. If you want photographs that sell, pay a 19-year-old girl to take off her clothes. I'm not denying it's art, but I'm not pretending people don't like looking at naked girls. There is a basic value to honesty.

despite the fact that we are inundated with images, (daily!) - we have little appreciation for the photograph...

we are programmed to look at an image for less than 5 seconds, and decide "like it" or "no" - move on. most photographs take much more time to process, partcularly b+w..

The vast majority of photos we see, we have no idea who held the camera. Also, we don't care - the thought never comes to mind - it has nothing to do with the picture. So, you get handed a photo with a name attached and that suddenly is supposed to validate it as artistic expression. Well, only if that name is recognized. Well, only if that is the name of an artist. An artist is someone who has been accepted as an artist, according to many.

I think if you say "Art" too many times, he'll eventually show up.

EXACTLY! And if you can hear the difference, there's no reason to doubt that someone might see the difference in prints.
but where do you put the accordion ?

do views count (instead of money) ?
https://www.photrio.com/forum/media/?order=view_count
non naked 19year old women are 7 out of 10 of the top views

too bad tom saurwein doesn't post there anymore his nudes transcended the idea that there were naked people in the frame
