Who would you most like to discuss photography with?

Have any of you thought about what you'd actually discuss with these people, or how disappointing the discussion might be?

yes, i have .. and i have had conversations with a really "famous" and "groundbreaking" photographer ...
and he was a real jerk ... at least the person i picked had a sense of humor, the famous guy i had lunch with
made a HUGE scene at the restaurant, was insulting and threatened me ...

Mr. F. Allen Bradshaw. He was the advisor for our 1983-1985 Yearbook. He taught me more about press photography and darkroom techniques in two years than I learned anywhere else. He passed away recently, before I could reconnect. I'd like to have one more conversation with him if I could.

Hopefully the discussion wouldn't be disappointing. The worst I can imagine: "Oh no, Ansel! Can't believe you're shooting mirrorless these days. Thought for sure you'd still be using Hasselblad."

On one hand I hate it when other people get to "talking shop" around me, and I recognize and feel disappointed when I do the same. So I think BrianShaw has the right idea... talk about something else!

So here goes: If you could, who would you most like to have a discussion on photography with?

My Grandmother, fathers side.

My Grandmother loved photography, to how great an extent I'll never know. She bought two albumen prints on her Honeymoon 1910 which was her first trip abroad (her words) when she left Scotland for the English Lake District.

It's ironic that when you look at my family's early photographs they are higher quality than later images, and this is a pattern that repeats over decades as Kodak in particular take format sizes down in size. Can't blame Kodak for 35mm but they dumbed that down with 126 which was repackaged 828 then 110 and finally mini disc.

It was my Grandmother who encouraged me, my father was the first to admit he was tone deaf and had no interest on arts although he did finally realise what my work was about.

I was in my very early 20's when my Grand-mother died but she'd bought me a Durst enlarger for my 21st Birthday, she always asked me what images I was making and would ask why, I think that was mote important. She died before I really began to produce work I felt was truly my own but I wish I could have shown her and discussed it.

Someone earlier wished they could meet me.

Every time I hear that, I think of the comment you make Theo. I'm sure every person that one things is worthy of special attention feels that way, or at least should. I hear enough comments, said by young people wishing to meet their favorite rock star or movie star and this saying comes to my mind then as well. Most movie stars and rock stars think the opposite of what you say.

Maybe the heroes should have someone whispering in their ears that everyone is mortal and that means in all ways.

if i could have a conversation with a 2nd person besides emanuel ...
it would probably be someone who i might not have never heard of but is
fastidious with her or his processing and printing who would probably
have a coronary and give me a dope slap when she or he saw my work or what i do ...
i'd like to just to get more than a healthyearful of the polar opposite of me...
