Is Ken Rockwell the Jeremy Clarkson of camera gear?

Probably Clarkson oens a better business

Sure they have something in common, reviewing gear and mixing techincal performance information with personal opinions. And promoting some controversy...

Anyway his reviews on Nikon gear are atonishingly good, we have detailed information from the Nikon F to the D5, also all prosumer and consumer models, all lenses, flashes, with all compatibility totally well reported... There is a vey hard job in gathering all that information, knowledge and of course for sure some wisdom.

Anyway in photography you allways get attacks when playing in certain arenas and saying personal opinions.

In his web site, technical information is quite accurate and errors are quite hard to find, then his opinions may like more or less depending on our own position, personally I don't disagree much, but even when I disagree I value knowing that point of view, at least those opinions are always based in facts, but we have to understand that every photographer is a particular case and YMMV.

Emotions run high when the stakes are insignificant. So much discussion of the F6, even though the OP asked about the F5 and the F100.

I've owned both in my time, but no longer do - I'm still with my Nikkormats, ELs and FT2s, which have served me well since I bought them new and still do on those rare occasions when I shoot film.

If I had to choose between your two preferred ancients, I would go with the F5 - built like a Sherman tank, can be used as a defense weapon, and seems to always keep on shooting.

The main advantage of the F100, on the other hand, is when it dies (and it will), you can throw it out and buy another.
