I'll recommend VDB as starting process, as well. It's cheap, fairly easy, fairly rewarding and mastering it will make upgrading to PT/PB very easy. Additionally you have the toning options that can improve the print stability. You can tone only the best prints and this way you even the expensive toners become cheaper to use. With the Gold/Thiourea toner you get prints quite close to B&W. View attachment 245176
If you can get such density range and smooth tonality out of VDB, who needs Pt-Pd?
