Looking to buy a spanner wrench for working on my lenses (attaching retaining ring to lens board tightly).

Which one is the right size?

You would be a fool to get one of those pieces of shit. Do yourself a favor and call SK Grimes and ask them to sell you one of their wrenches. About the same price as these and 1000 times better. I have one I got on feebay and it is the best I have ever had, and belive me I have tried them all....

i have a sk grimes spanner too: it has the round tips --- they also make flat tips. jorge is right, they are pretty amazing

 ok ok, I can take a hint...

I'll just confirm the hint - I've got one of those too. Everything else is a waste of time and money.

hi brian

i only have the round tip one, i didn't realize they had flat tipped ones until i left their shop ( i live 20 mins away  )
and went to their website

i am not sure why one is better than the other ...

might be too late...but edmund scientific has a nifty spanner wrench. it's adjustable and comes with a set of straight, round & bent shank tips, plus 2 center bars that you can adjust the widths of the wrench. the short bar is about three and a half inches in length and the long one is twice that--the working width is about half inch to 7 inches. the tips switch out easily with an allen wrench, and you can vary the length of the arms as well. great set--costs about 60 bucks or so.

The flat tipped spanners should be good for retaining rings. The pointed tip wrenches are used in camera repair to remove the funky rewind, dial covers that have two holes.

John

more spanners

Yet another source for spanners & other camera fixin(?) stuff is micro-tools.com. I used to be in the business of camera repair & these folks have always been a good source of small hand tools for me.

Got my SK Grimes Spanner in the mail today. It is very well built! Fast shipment, and a nice looking package. I figured they'd just toss it in a padded envelope, but it came in a custom screened skgrimes spanner wrench box

Thanks guys,
Brian
