I have an N-75 with a 28mm to 300mm zoom. Quite good but no spot meter.

I have an F-100 with a 28mm to 200mm zoom. Great camera. More controls and override than the N-75. For example, you can override the film speed for the whole roll rather than constantly reset the speed when you turn the camera on.

I would shoot with a Nikon F100 and shoot Rollei CR200 for a slight Kodachrome look and some E100G or Elite Chrome.

I have a F4s...I LOVE that camera.

BTW...You will really like that N90s...I've had a couple of 'em...Very good cameras. Pick-up a MB10 battery grip and a Nikkor AF-D 50mm f/1.8 lens, and you'll be "good to go".

Thanks,

I already have the 50mm 1.8. I got it not too long ago for my D90. Been real pleased with it.

For $500 you can get a F5. If you don't want the bulk then look for a F100, they are so cheap nowadays it is hardly worth looking at anything else.

If it wasn't used to drive nails, that's a great deal. The N90s did have an issue with the rubber coating on the back rubbing off. You can expect that on a "bgn" body. Purely a cosmetic issue.

I think the N90s is the most "bang for the buck" in Nikon autofocus.

I think my BGN grade N90S+MF26 may have been used to drive nails (there are a few small chips and scratches on the edges, and the back coating looks terrible), but it's performed faultlessly and works equally well with AF and AI lenses. Best £25 I ever spent (at least on photography!)

You can find them all over from cheap to expensive. Don't pay more than $300

I'm still waiting for the N90s that I got cheap from KEH. Haven't heard anything from them since the original acknowledgment of the order. Was the same last time I ordered, guess it's normal if it's close to the weekend. That will be a play-around camera.

I also have purchased a "like new" F100 from a member of these forums. He shipped it yesterday, so I should have it in a couple of days or so. Can't wait. Mean-time, I should get out some today with the FM2n and the digital. Pretty bleak and gray around these parts, no new snow to freshen things up - that is supposed to come during the week.

I too had problems with my eyes and needed to go the Auto Focus route as well. I have several manual Nikons (FM2n, FE2, FA) but I got a F5 and now an F6.

I would suggest the F5 as you can pick up one in EX+ condition for around $500 - 600tops. GREAT camera and built like a tank. The main draw back for many people is the size and weight. I'm 6'3 with big hands so it's not an issue with me.

The F6 is more the size of the F100 but probably out of your price range. The best of the 35mm cameras ever made. It's pros are quality are the ability to take advantage of the newest lens technology, flash technology and shooting data downloads., Con-Price

That would leave the F100, just a step down from the F5 but it's a baby step. From their I would consider the F4 then F3......

All this is my personal preference, others may disagree.

Ok,

I received the F100 a couple of days ago. Will be running some film through it on Friday. The camera is definitely "Like New". I would be hard pressed to point out one flaw on it having had a couple of days to look it over. Really looking forward to learning this camera.

Today I received the "BGN" N90s from KEH. All I can say is AMAZING. I paid $38.95 (Included shipping) for this "Bargain" camera. It came today, packed superbly. This camera was definitely NOT used to drive nails. The rear rubberized coating is totally intact, cannot even see any wear marks on the gripping surfaces. A few VERY minor scuff marks, hardly noticeable - the type you might expect from the camera being slid into and out of a camera bag a few times. I hesitate to even call them scuffs, just slightly lighter colored areas. I can find hardly a blemish on the painted surfaces. Two or three minuscule paint nicks on the edges of the viewfinder. The camera is very clean, and if I were to guess, I may say it was a display model in a serious camera shop (not a Best Buy or the like).

My only thought as to why this camera was rated a bargain, and even on sale at that, is that they have an overabundance of them in stock. As long as it works when I try it out this Friday, I will be one very happy camper with these two purchases. My confidence and admiration for KEH has increased tremendously, and the forum member here who sold me their F100 also gave me a great bargain.

Thank you all for your advice and counsel. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some useful advice in the future for others.

Well, you're in trouble now - you'll expect every deal to be as good as this one.

Why are F5's so expensive now? I know mine was $300 or so for a BGN a year or two ago.

I have an F100 and use AF Primes. Consider using AF Primes as there are some excellent ones to choose from. I just picked up the 28/23.8 & 85/1.8 last week and used them over the weekend. I should have the film processed in a day or so and will have the results to review.

Best regards,

Bob

The prices listed sound about right now. I paid $499 for mine in EX+ from KEH last July. Aside from the rubber grip coming loose on the shutter side, the camera is pretty much like new. All of these prices seem insane to me; I paid $2,089 for my first F5 at Adorama back in '99.
