Try adding 0.25 grams of borax to your usual 2 reel volume of 1:50 Rodinal. See how that works

But then you no longer have Rodinal but something else. The ides is to use the 'real' Rodinal.

I would be careful of confusing an ingredient with an adjunct; the borax does not change Rodinal's tonal interpretation (which is the majority of the 'Rodinal look', not the grain or the grain's edges). But I get what you're saying.
