.....I see a few options out there and was wondering which is THE same mix as the original....for purchase in Europe please....

R09 one shot?
Adox Adonal?
Adox Rodinal?

Good question, I'm using Adox APH 09, that seems to be the oldest formula.
Adox/Fotoimpex says their Adonal or Rodinal (Agfa formula from 2005) give finer grain...
Anyway - I wouldn't expect much difference between them.

Where does "Adox Adolux APH 09 based on the recipes of the original Rodinal formulation from 1945 from ORWO Wolfen" fit on the scale? Realizing, of course, that there were different formulations of "Rodinal" after those years, and probably more than one change...

I remember reading a while ago that the Adox rodinal was simply re maned adonal as Adox had bought the rights to use the name, but as far as Adonal and Rod one shot is concerned they were made by Agfa and sold to the various suppliers to be sold under their own name, I use ro9/one shot as it is cheaper than adonal/rodinal, the keeping qualities aooear to be the same, the results between adox and ro9 one shot are identical, in all respects, as far as the Aph 09 is concerned, it was better in some respects than modern day rodinal clones, but as far a keeping qualities are concerned it was rubbish,

The original patent from Agfa is laying opened since 1945.Have a look on Wiki there you can find the formula.
Adox Clones with "09" in the name indicates this is based on reformulation of Calbe's Rodinal clone.
The main difference is with the developing agend.
P-aminophenol is the original "allone" agend.

with regards

PS : from its characteristics it is all the
same - you should notice no difference.
The main issue of clones comes from different syntesis of aminophenol.

I would advice to mix it from raw chems and make a real big production run of your homebrew.
So that the ammound of it you"ll get will last for 100years.
Because the shell live is to the same....:D

If it will work fine you shoud contact Adox to come into business.
You just have to mention you reformulate
Rodinal within a work of 18 years.
If they want to see your notes you should
mention you classified it.

Adox's current 'Rodinal' and 'Adonal' are both made to the most recent Agfa Rodinal formulation - the 'Adonal' brand apparently is only still being used because of some trademark issue in France. APH09 is apparently going to be withdrawn once current stocks have run out. Have a look on Fotoimpex's shopping site if you want more.

...any comments on peoples favourite combinations with these pseudo Rodinals? personally I find the combination of Kodak Tmax 400 and Today Xtol quite magical....

Compard RO9 for large format FP4+ is a favourite for me, lovely tones, grain doesn't matter, very easy to use.

I can get R09 One Shot Rodinal for 20,50 euros delivered to my door from foto-r3.com in Spain...how's that?

I remember Rollei offered this stuff years ago. With nice price and in original Agfa Style as RO9.
If I remember 1/2 L to the half price you mentioned now.
They also offered 2 x 1/2 L as special nice price at 18,- Euro.
But I decided against because it could last to more that 400 films.
And there are more other interisting developers.

with regards

PS : But if it is 1/2 liter (the R09 One shot) why not try out !

Adox claims that their Rodinal (or Adonal in some markets) is made according to the latest formulas obtained from ex Agfa chemists when it ceased operations ten years ago. Adox also revived various Agfa products (i.e. paper), so I think their claim is true. I personally use Adox Rodinal (and various other Adox products, I'm a great Adox fan). I guess the difference in results between Rodinal and R09 will be minimal.

I would like go agree with this - the difference in results will be minimal.
The relation of other impacts should be more visible in results.
- box speed / E.I.
- dillution 1/50...1/25....1/100...1/200..?
- agitation rhythm 30sec./1min./2min./120min. / No agitation between 2min and 240min.
- temperature of developing bath

So one could say : Cheapest Rodinal is allways best Rodinal ?

My stash of Agfa Rodinal ran out a few years ago just as Adox Adonal became available in Australia, and, transitioning between the two I have noticed:

• no difference at all!

Marc!

So - munz6869 it becomes more clear now. (If Rodinal with its clones work also in the southern hemisphere as here)
There should be NO visible difference.

with greetings to you munz6869

You won’t find any appreciable difference between the various branding of Rodinal. They are interchangeable.

From Adox’s web site:
RODINAL is produced according to Agfa Leverkusen´s latest Rodinal* formula from 2004.

It does not get more Rodinal than this.
ADOX works together with former Agfa scientists on all Agfa-replacement products.
If you have used Agfa Rodinal* before you can achieve identical results with ADOX RODINAL.

Compared to R09/APH09 Rodinal works more fine grained while still enhancing sharpness and acutance.”

But bear in mind, all of these formulations are minor tweaks on the original Rodinal formula, and I do mean minor. I’ve used Adox Rodinal, and RO9, and even a vintage bottle of Agfa Rodinal from 1985 and they are, for all practical purposes, identical.
Buy whatever is available to you and use it!

PS: I also find the combination of Rodinal (Adox) and FP4 to be exquisite. (In 8x10 format)

So basically I should be fine with the APH09 I got last month and would notice only minimal differences in grain if I switched to Adox from the 2004 formulation.
