Some of you guys are taking this video way too seriously. The guy who runs the channel just crushes stuff for the sheer hell of it. His videos IMO are surprisingly entertaining. At least he decided to crush the ultra-common chrome AE-1 and not a F2AS or Leica M3. (I'll admit, the FA being crushed was kinda upsetting). I still like his channel, though.

Though seemingly it is not true, I still look upon that video as reaction on that Canon/Nikon rivalry. Seen with that perspective iit is fun.

Destruction for its own sake is sad, not fun. It doesn't matter if you're destroying something as cheap as dirt.

or airliner windshields by shooting turkeys at them.
If they did that with a Minolta SRT its wouldn't crack under pressure.

Anyone recall the Timex commercials with John Cameron Swayze? I say we strap a camera to a boat and take it for a ride.

The Nikonos III wouldn't even be fazed.

What about cameras rotting in cellars, because nobody seems wanting them?
Or fine cameras ending in rummage boxes at camera stores were in short time they get scratched, bent, soiled?

The two cameras they crushed will have absolutely No Impact on anybodies life...other than problems they create in their own heads.....

The problem here is feeding the thrill of watching real destruction. When watching a movie full of violence, you're in 'disbelief' mode. Anything goes without having an impact on how you process your day to day. But when it's real, it's no longer in a sandbox. Destroying cheap commodities is only different from destroying precious artifacts in a different, cultural, and hence overridable, layer, than the one concerned with the basic emotional response to real destruction. By dampening the latter you come to rely only on the former, which is much less reliable.

Boys have a stage in life where they want to "Blow stuff up". Luckily, I outgrew it before I got married. What my wife doesn't want me to watch on YouTube anymore are idiots getting their asses kicked from acts of stupidity. It's one of my guilty pleasures.

I used to build stuff with LEGO and then blow it up, like with a mace. I don't think I've ever ruined a single piece, that stuff is well thought out.

When I was a little boy and caught something like the measles or mumps I'd obviously have to be home a couple of weeks. So my mom would drive
into the city and get me some fancy model ship kit. The more intricate the better. Everything had to be perfectly detailed, right down to the paint
details and all the decals. Then once it was done, I'd take it down to our little duck pond with either a cherry bomb on it, or filled with gunpowder, or
simply aim a twelve gauge shotgun at it. That's one of the joys of being a little boy - taking something intricate and instantly blowing it up!

may I be the first to say '"we're all doomed"?

Never did that.
That's what went wrong in my life...

But actually I do not know anybody who did.
A cultural phenomenon?

Years later it was blowing up your own SimCity. The fun was first in coping with the destruction, trying to keep the city functioning somewhat, and then in rebuilding, with all the repurposing and blending of the new with the old.

I knew a guy when I was a kid who never out grew that phase, he joined the army for life so he could blow up real shtuff.

We built cars and tanks and used firecrackers. I'm a little younger than you and unfortunately cherry bombs and M80's were illegal by that time.

I was using an industrial hammer drill on a job drilling concrete in an office building. Some fool lady office worker asked my why I had to make so much noise. I told her that I was always noisy as a kid so my mother told me that when I got older I needed to find a job where I could make as much noise as I wanted. My answer pissed her off plenty. :D

Good answer.

This is a better use of a hydraulic press. Maybe it's better to get Vito to toss the dough.
