I'm in Mexico. I'm way more concerned about theft in the US.
Half a roll shot so far in the town of Talum.

Pace yourself.Half a roll shot so far in the town of Talum.
Finished the roll. Heading home now. Even used two lenses!! The 50 and 35mm. Went all out on this trip lol.
Why bother with film at all? You said you've done that already in Mexico. Use your cell phone for people shots around the resort and relax the rest of the time. When I travel, I take a little Sony RX100 that I can keep in my pocket. It gives me great stills and video clips and I can make a little digital slide show video show to give to relatives, your friend in this case. YOu can do the same with cellphone shots.
I'd reluctantly 2nd the no film option. We just got back from Kauai and I took roll and 4x5 film. Getting through TSA was an amazing annoyance not because of their unwillingness to hand check but the time it took to unload and check each individual roll/holder. The people behind me were never pleased.

My concern, too. What I did last time I flew (across U.S.) was to have B&H send film to my destination and then I Fedexed the exposed film home. Easy peezy.
But Hawaii is in my future as well, and it's a lot more difficult because of island hopping.
Ok if I can upload some images here they are! Drum roll please .... So to recap, film is Ilford FP4 rated at box speed, lenses used were Jupiter 50mm, VC Color-Skopar 35mm (last two shots) and Leica 90mm. The 90mm never got used and the 35mm only got used for three or four shots. Click on the images to make them bigger.

I didn't use a filter for any of the shots as I was testing how FP4 and PyroCat-HD handled the extreme DR in 35mm. Scanning was done with a Nikon D800e and Nikor 60mm macro lens. Photoshop was only used for inversion and very minor curves adjustments. No sharpening was added. On my computer the images are VERY sharp and minimal grain. Not sure how Photrio will handle the images.
All in all I am happy with the combo and glad I took only a film camera. It was a much needed adjustment back to how I use to photograph years ago. There is nothing fancy here photographically, just fun "I was there" photos.
I thought about that as well. Do you know if Fed Ex uses X-rays? It would have been MUCH simpler to load at the destination as I carried a changing tent with me either way.
