Sometimes I think certain photographic processes are not for everyone. I'm not getting along with this scanning much. Last night for the first time in a couple weeks I decided to scan some more and was prompted for another update to VueScan Professional. Things went to pot after that. All my settings changed and three times I tried scanning two strips of 35mm negatives. I picked one out, scanned it and had it put where I always had before indicated in the default folder but, it never showed up there. Anyone's guess as to where it went. I've yet to find either of the three times I scanned it.

I never had this kid of problem in the darkroom and am tempted to drag out all my trays, enlarger, easel, get some new chemistry and get back to business with something I know more about. Scanning has been a huge PITA from the get go.

I don't use VueScan or know what computer system you use. I use SilverFast and name each scan. I indicate the folder the scan should go to and it has not been a problem. I have forgotten what folder an image is in and used Spotlight on the Mac placing the name of the image and have located it that way. You might try a similar approach to locate where your scans have gone.

See the "Default Folder" field in the "Output" tab for the location of scan files and the default file formats. If you still can't find your files, a Windows search will quickly locate them. VueScan is pretty straightforward, but it always helps to be computer savvy when scanning and editing. :D You might want to click through all the tabs to see what features are available, and also read Help->Users Guide.

I had a place in the Default Folder where they always went before. Now, I don't know where the hell they are. Maybe in SC.

It's a simple task to let Windows find the files. I guarantee that VueScan is naming and saving them according to the way it has been configured. Take a deep breath and remember that you are the master of the machine

Windows couldn't find it I searched for "My Scans", a folder in my F-drive I have dubbed "Digital Photos". That's what's in the VueScan Default Folder and that should have opened in Capture NX2, my post processing software. It did before but now I don't know where they're being put. When I open NX2 and look under the My Scans folder those photos just scanned are not showing.

Time to go outside with my dog, have a cup of coffee and smoke my pipe awhile.

I believe I've found the problem-the scanner. I bought this piece of junk from B&H just six weeks ago and now it doesn't work. I turned it on after walking away awhile and the green power light comes on but that's it, no blue light. I tried to open Epson Scan software and it tells me it's not connected. I checked connections and nothing is wrong. I even changed USB ports to no avail as well as changing USB cables-still doesn't work and I can't even find it in the Control Panel nor the software for it.

I just bought this June 10th and it's already crapped out.

- Go to My Computer and initiate a search across all disks for all files and folders.

- Another possibility: maybe the scans are not getting written to disk. Check the "Auto save" field in the "Input" tab. If it's set to "None" change it to "Scan," or use the disk icon below the scan pane to explicitly save the file.

If your USB printer and your USB scanner aren't recognized, then it sounds like you have a USB problem. First course of action is always completely power off the computer, then reboot. Check the status of all your devices before launching VueScan again.

After much ado, turns out it was a glitch within the computer. All that trouble with the scanner and it wasn't the culprit. I shutdown, walked away to take my dog outside for about 20 minutes or so, came back in and there was nothing on the screen but a bunch of blue/green horizontal lines. I thought my HDD had went belly up. I turned it off for about a minute and rebooted. I tried the printer again and it worked...so did the scanner. I'm quitting both for tonight while I'm ahead.

Piece of cake  Most important thing to know about computers: the human is the boss. A clean shutdown (when possible) and a reboot solve most weird behaviors.

The only weird thing it is doing is not opening drop down menus or if you right click the task bar or right click an email you get a phantom box with no choices until you move the mouse from the top down or vice versa...than the choices show up. Computers are a wonderful invention-when they're doing as designed. Maybe I'll try and tackle that tomorrow.

As you become more familiar with your hardware and software you will have fewer of these frustrations :D

Everything late this afternoon went 180 degrees from yesterday this time. Today it went about as smooth as it gets with the scanning-I was most pleased. Yesterday was the day from hell. Ever had one of them days? Even a package that was due for delivery and only four miles down the road at the PO ended up being sent to Warrendale, PA instead of here for some unknown reason-idiots at the PO.

Just one of the scans from 120 film(Agfapan 400 and Rodinal) tonight I shot at a Mennonite community many moons ago.
