Where can I get green filters for B&W?

I have begun again to use Leicas after a long lapse (a long story, some other time). Mostly it was an inheritance from a close friend of an M4 and some lenses.
Well, I bought another M4 and now have a basic set of lenses using 39mm, 46mm, and 55mm filters.
I'm told that these days, B+W filters are best (short of Leica, which is quite pricey). I'm having trouble finding a medium green (maybe wratten 57 - 60?) for foliage enhancement with a factor around 4x.
I'd like to find used but even new are hard to find, as attested to by a couple of order sources (B&H told me they were "old fashioned").
Anyone know where to get such relics?

I like to use Yellow Green and found all my sizes except 46mm. Heliopan will make one special order for around $60 if I recall correctly.

They propose 46 and 55, not 39mm. Use a step-up ring.
I'd rather advise yellow-green for foliage enhancement. Factor 2x. Also proposed as special order at fotoimpex.

Good luck trying to find one in 39 mm. I ended up buying four used filters from a seller in Australia because it included a green B+W. Tiffen still makes a green filter but the site only listed 46 mm and up. Let us know if you find one.

Spend all the money that you want -- that's up to you. I use Hoya HMC G (X1) 55mm & 77mm filters -- my standard sizes. You can get them anywhere, in any size, and they are as good as anything else. You can find them used on EBAY for under $5 -- right now there are 40 to choose from. You can donate the $150 you save to Ukraine or the Florida Red Cross.

But like any contrast filter, you have to decide which "color" to get -- and there are lots of different "greens".

One solution is to get a step up adapter to an easier to find filter size.

Ebay is your friend to find a second hand one, most will rarely have been used.
Also consider using step rings, which enable you to use a filter of a size up.

ive a few lenses with different threads and these save a lot of duplicate filters in different sizes.

But even Heliopan cancelled Green. Though they still offer Yellow-Green.

For lightening foliage xo and x1 both yellow green is the ticket. B+W 060 and 061. And evil bay is a good place to start. Old fashioned? Who me?

Tiffen still does #58 inexpensively, and #61 for not so inexpensive.

Adorama and B&H both carry a decent selection.

I bought an old Leica 39mm chrome ring version used from B&H. Dirty buy cleaned up nicely, I probably won't use it, but I'm ready for anything.

It's finding new 39 mm filters. Tiffen still makes the green but not in 39 mm. B+W and Heliopan stopped and Leica still makes them but are ridiculously expensive. The good thing is most of the black and white filters on the secondary haven't been used very much and are generally in good shape.

I should have added B+W and Heliopan stopped making green filters in 39 mm but still offer a variety of yellow, orange and red in that size.

The answer has been hinted at, some colours are more common in particular sizes, so if if buying new you want to use a green filter on a 39mm thread lens use a 39-to-46mm step up ring and a 46mm filter. But the are lots and lots of green filters in both 39mm and 46mm (the typical Leica sizes) on eBay.

B&W filters were∑ay too expensive for me too. I settled on Fiffen and are quite happy with them.

In the long past there only were two or three manufacturers of filter glass on the western market. Thus concerning the glass filters proper there was not much choice.
The difference then may have been in the flatness, coating, mounting and brand status.

I've used step down/ step up adapters for eons, works fine. Be prepared to see white, or almost white foliage (assuming you're shooting green foliage). It's nice, but can be over done easily. My basic B&W filter is a Yellow one, which is sort of an all purpose filter that adds contrast and makes for better skies and clouds.
