What ever happened to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver? I almost enrolled there in 1985 or so.
That's still around, but I think it has a new name. A couple reasons why I don't want to go there... I do want to leave Colorado, I've lived in the same house for 17 years or my 17 year life... I need a break. And New York is the place to be in order to get a good internship for photography. Don't get me wrong, I still love Colorado... but I need an east coast experience. -Grant

Originally, from L.A. then. like Grant, went looking for the east coast experience in Brooklyn, New York to study photography at Pratt Institute, and never looked back. A few years after college I moved to DC, then more recently we landed in New England. I love the change of seasons.

10 miles N of Chester, Cheshire, UK. About equidistant (ish) from Snowdonia, Peak District and Lake District (about 1.5-2.5 hrs). A little different to Yosemite.....We have dwarves in snowdonia. They live in the mountain. Who else would have done all that quarrying?

Born and living in the middle of little Switzerland!

I spent a week along Lake Konstanz last year. While there I visited Mt. Santis. In a word, it was simply awesome!!!

Grant,
You might include Mass College of Art in your search engine and see if it will fit your needs. It is in Boston and surely you will get the east coast experience there also. I think Nick Nixon still teaches there. My alma mater.

Yep, Mass Art is there... albeit a little lower on my list. I have a good friend in Boston who has told me about it. It sounds nice, but I'm just not as informed on it and I'm starting to run out of time... but I'm probably going to apply there anyway. -Grant

I went to school next door, to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
Good school, total freedom of choice, but quite a bit chaotic. I can't say much about the photo department because I did sculpture and drawing there.
Mass Art is a very fine school as well. Great library, huge facilities, more tradinional stractured curicullum (ie. Photography, Painting, Multimedia, etc). A friend of mine went there. She combined photography with perfomance art in this experimental department. Crazy stuff.
Any more details I can provide?

As good as those two sound, unfortunately I'm starting to get locked in to the 3 I've chosen. But I still plan on applying to Mass Art. Do you know if in that experimental department if you can combine any two majors? Because I have been considering film-making as a minor (or concentration) at the other schools. Thanks for your help. -Grant

Hi Suzanne
How long did you study at Pratt? Was it a good programme?
Kind regards,
Nicole

Only fitting to be in Lincoln Nebraska, and after the only other post in this thread that mentions Lincoln.

I must give thanks to all here - wonderful site. Many helpful, knowledgable souls here and LOTS of talent. Very humbling. Much easier to give money to help keep this site going as opposed to subscribing to a magazine.

When my friend went there (about three-four years ago), the program was designed for combining disciplines, but you had no choice in what the igredients of the soup were. I am not sure how they have changed it but it was media related. I know it had photography, probably cinematography or video and my friend also did performance then too. You will have to check at Mass Arts yourself for more information.

The Museum School gives you total freedom. I concentrated on sculpture and drawing but I did also wood working, metal welding, jewelry, ceramics, painting, photography, digital image manipulation, performance art, print making... do I forget anything?
(including the two years at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, I think I've done almost anything that can be remotely considered artistic - and some things not!)
Atleast there you could combine anything you want.

Mass Art is much cheaper though than SMFA because it is part funded by the State, especially if you are a US citizen.
