Youxin? Never again.

this guy got so lucky on becoming known it’s not even funny. He was cheap, he was fast, he learned on other people’s cameras, the forum poor crowds started recommending him and voila. No proper training, learned on making errors. Wtf.

This "lucky" guy has cleaned, lubed and adjusted a large number of my Leica cameras and lenses and I have never once had any problems. Since you aren't interested in using his services that means he has more time for others.

As Old Gregg says, responds quickly, is reliable and doesn't keep your equipment forever. Seems to be a pretty good option.

If you guys knew how easy it is to breathe life back to an old Leica, rolleiflex... a few drops of oil and you gain 5 years of “super snoothness”. Any one of us could start a business and, if lucky enough, have the internet go crazy about your “cheap and excellent service”.
This is probably why he used to refuse to work on a lot of cameras that required more work, like changing a curtain.

I know all this from first-hand experience. Including a completely oil soaked and junked Leica, took a bath in watch oil. It stank and it dripped oil for months.

Interesting observations. It is clear that your experience with Youxin has not been favorable. Fortunately there are other options available. You may feel more comfortable with DAG, Gus or one of the others. They do pretty good work as well and Guz Lazzari and Dag have done work for me in the past as well. All good people.

Youxin has in fact changed shutter curtains on two of my Leicas. Not sure why he wasn't interested in helping you with yours.

None of mine have returned oil soaked but I can certainly set one of the recently repaired ones on a piece of white paper towel overnight to check.

like I said, he practiced on a lot of cameras. He started working on lenses only recently. This tells a lot.

Actually I think his wife does the lens cleaning. Maybe Leica repair is slowing down so he is practicing to do something else. :D

I don't know NB. All I do know is he has always treated me very well. And for someone who is just practicing he is pretty handy.

So it seems he'd be good to use now, seeing that he's practiced in a lot of cameras.

Have you ever seen a medical Dr? Do you complain to him that he is practicing his craft? And on you every time you see him?
If you have no issues with someone winging it with something as serious as your health, you should be ok with someone looking at a camera.

Comparing him to a Doctor to make a point?
Is this like when you recommended me a Holga when we were discussing the best possible Lens/camera settings?

I couldn’t make head or tails of this discussion until I found the “show ignored content” button at the bottom of the page. NB23! You cranky guy! I have used Mr. Ye five, maybe six times. Leica service, lens service. Always fast, and it all works right when it comes back. Training has its benefits- but in the trades, experience and commitment to excellence trump schooling. I’m glad Youxin “practiced” on NB’s gear before he got to mine- because he has done a great job on everything I have sent him.

@NB23 I do not question your experience, and absolutely believe that if one doesn't go through training mistakes are unavoidable in the beginning. But I've also hired plenty of amazing self-taught software engineers in my career to know that practice is the best learning. He's been doing it for 10+ years and must have gotten plenty of practice!

I think we should all thank NB for allowing Youxin to practice on his gear before he figured out how to do it right.

Youxin has done excellent work on my Leicas, and I'd use him again.

Perhaps we should all chip in to buy NB a Happy Meal?

Nah. A (very) small tin of watch oil should do it, because that's all you need to make a Lieca run smoothly for years, according to nb. The watch oil might also serve as lube for the axe he apparently has to grind. I think Youxin might be seeing my M3s and lenses soon.

You guys are disappointed because I am not part of your Love-Fest?

I’m on some of youze block list because I do not approve of stand-development?

Some of you got your Life destroyed when I criticized your photography sometime in the past?

When I wrote a post about how I threw my Holga in the garbage... I guess I killed a few friendships along.

What else am I guilty of, let’s see... ah yes, sharing my experiences. When I say that I’ve shot over 2 million shots in my lifetime people tend to dislike me for this. How can this even be possible, right?

Whoa whoa whoa.

If you had told us you were so awesome right from the beginning, none of this would have happened!

With zero dollars to gain, why would I lose energy on promoting myself in here? No, I may come across as this but that is all. It’s all in the perception and my job is not to change people’s minds/cultures/past/psyche.

The problem is elsewhere. I have my little idea.
