Some goodies I picked up last weekend at the Dutch Fotografica Fair,

I cruised the neighborhood yard sale this past weekend and purchased a zeiss ikon sl 706 with an m-42 mount 50 mm f 1.8 ultron lens. I ran some tri-x thru it today and processed it in HC.-110b. Camera is really clean though a bit heavy and works flawlessly. The lens, also heavy for its size, is incredibly sharp. Even wide open it appears to render great detail. I have not yet put any of the film in the enlarger or scanner but plan to do so soon. It’s looking like a well spent $10.

Terrific camera. The end point of Zeiss and Voigtlander united efforts.

To reacquaint myself with film photography, I picked up this little guy.

The FM10 is pretty modest I know. But the meter works and the shutter speeds sound about right. The lens is pretty basic (1st gen E-Series 50mm f/1.8) but good enough for my eyes.
I'm going to see if I can get used to shooting seriously with film; to see if I've gotten any better at photography in general after all the blasting away with digital the past few years.

There's some battle damage.

I finally saw one of those in the plastic at a camera show a few weeks ago. For years (decades?) I've been reading that they're not "real Nikons" since they're made by Cosina. But I couldn't find anything wrong with it. It's spec'd about like a Nikon from 1980, but that's all most of us need.

Re. re-entering film photography, I found that my photography started getting markedly better when I came back to film. Something about knowing that each shot costs money makes us consider composition more carefully.

Well... The reason why most people complain about it, is that if you expect the FM10 to be an "improvement" of the venerable FM and FM2, as the name would imply, it's going to be a cold shower. It is instead a bottom-line model for beginners, with lots of plastic. And then yes, it was not even made by Nikon. Actually: "is", as believe it or not, it's still in Nikon's lineup while I write.

It's a 11X14 Deardorff commercial camera, this one has a rotating 8x10 back, 75 inches of bellows extension, weighs 60 lbs, the stand weighs 350 lbs .
I love being crazy! .

I just ordered a Zenit C in working shape with I-50 lens and leather case. I'm excited. I love early 35mm SLR's but I sold both my Rectaflex (never had a lens) and my Praktica FX and F.X3, with a Primoplan.

I'm excited to get it. It'll take some time getting here but it'll be well worth it to me. I wonder how adjusting the shutter tension is going to be without the ability to look through the shutter...

I also wonder how easy I'll find the lens at first. No preset ring or click stops... I think I'm decent at judging what f/stop an SLR is at by looking through the finder, but this will be the test.

Hello, just new here. Managed to snag a Yashica T2 for cheap. Sadly it doesn't work well and I can't find any details on repair on the net.

Oh well, off to look for another one.

A friend very graciously just gave me a Agfa Karat 36 with a Metraphot light meter. I seem to be a Karat magnet, but am not complaining as I think they are great little cameras.

The focus and advance was frozen, but soon limbered-up with a bit of cleaning. The focus is still a bit stiff but I am slowly working the green goo (grease) out of the helicoid/helicoil (which is it?) and exercising the shutter. As of this morning, the speeds sound close to listed.

The meter is non-functional and I tried to disassemble it, but quickly backed out after taking the cover off. I'll just let it look pretty on some shelf queen.

The USPS brought me a "new" eBay purchase today, a camera in a class I've never owned before: an interchangeable lens rangefinder. Specifically, in this case, a 1973 vintage Kiev 4AM (the 4A with built-in selenium meter, seemingly functional). Came with a Jupiter 8M 50/2 lens, seemingly in very nice condition. I've got a post up in the rangefinder forum right now checking whether I'm correct in thinking it needs a CLA (slow speeds seem to drag), but I've got less than $60 into it including tax and shipping -- and if they aren't difficult (zillions of tiny parts or jack-in-the-box springs) I might try it myself.

And yes, the take up spool is present, so I don't have to jackleg one out of a cassette spool.

I've been in that fraternity for years. I've got a Kiev 30 and Kiev 303, 16 mm copies of the Minolta 16 II (with focusing triplet, shutter to 1/300 on the 303, and increased film capacity due to a smaller cassette core and drive fork).
