I just got a pair of battered Pentax 6x7 bodies from my brother. One MLU, the other the original. The MLU body is on the way to Eric Hendrickson at www.pentaxs.com for an overhaul.

No, he kept the 105mm. I bought two lenses for the 6x7 body: the Pentax 6x7 135mm f/4 macro & the 45mm f/4.5 wide angle. The 45mm came today. I'm using the 6x7 to supplement my Hasselblad 2000FC/M gear. I wanted a 'Blad 6x6 macro lens but the the Zeiss glass (120mm & 135mm bellows) are still very expensive - over $700 for the 135 & a grand+ for the 120mm. I got the Pentax 135mm lens for $79 shipped in exc+ condition.

The 40mm Hasselblad lens is $1500 to $2000 (I do not want the old 40mm C which can be had for $700). The Pentax 67 40mm f/4.5 in near mint condition cost me $240 shipped.

The money I've saved more than justifies having the 6x7 bodies overhauled. The 6x7 Pentax cameras & lenses have to be a best buy in medium format today.

I think so. If I were you, I'd pick up a 90mm lens and the 75 f4.5 or 75 f2.8 if you can find one.

For that price you should consider the SWC which is a much better lens.

In the pursuit of a compact 120, I came close to buying a beautiful little Retina IIIc. Apparently, the wife was paying more attention to my blathering than I thought. She handed it to me this evening. 2nd most pristine Retina I've seen. The one that's even moreso - I'd be afraid to take out of the house. Dang, they're handsome things.

Picked up a "flipper". Chrome Nikon F eyelevel for $50, plus shipping. Got it for the eyelevel finder, which is fairly clean cosmetically, but needs replacement of the inner foam before it deteriorates more and eats more of the silvering away. Swapped finders between it and the F FTn that I already had. Going to pass the resultant non-motorized F FTn to BradleyK.

Both lenses are recent acquisitions, too. 200/4 was a $50+tax Glazer's Camera purchase last week, and the 50/1.8 was a $40+tax Kenmore Camera purchase about 36 hours ago.

I posted before that the Mrs. handed me a gorgeous little Retina IIIc. Sadly, it didn't make it through the first roll. True to nature, Bluemooncamera was superb about it. Based on past experience there, I have no worries about how I'll be treated. They're great.
Your thoughts on a compact grab-n-go shooter would be welcome, should the Retina not work out. I'm learning the Retinas have some reputation for frailty/quirkiness. Is there anything with that picture quality you'd recommend more highly?

What happened with the Retina? I actually saw that Retina IIIc - but my interest was in the Retina IIa they had a month or so ago (I bought it). A lot of their cameras that sat around for months seemed to have been gobbled up in the last week or so. Stuff is always coming in; I check their site several times a day.

I think there's a Rollei 35 there and also a 35mm Minox (which don't have a good reputation, I think).

Do you like subminiature Minox? They have some Minox B's and a beautiful C. I bought a IIIs and a B from them. The IIIs has focus issues and needs to go to DAG; the B takes great photos.

Theo, You're local?! 'Very cool. You likely have some experience w/ how/where to shoot when the weather is on the moist side here.
I thought early of the Rollei 35 - seen several come & go from BMC & local sellers. My experiment w/ hip-shooting w/ the 'blad makes me think I need a coupled rangefinder. Submin? In the past, I was interested in the Oly 1/2 frame, but in general I don't want to go smaller than a 35 negative.
Any particular reason for preferring a IIa? Is it treating you well? (I hope).

I'm not exactly local, but I do get around. In dark wet weather my choice of subject remains the same: landscapes (mist and fog now added) and cityscapes (now with dark wet streets and lit windows). What brings me to a halt isn't the rain so much as the wind. I used to have photos online, on a photo sharing site, got plenty of views, but when they shut down I never took the trouble to upload photos again.

I understand not wanting to go below 35mm. As for the IIa, the Cameraquest website has been a longtime favorite of mine and I've been looking for a IIa ever since seeing this:

How about an Olympus XA? It has a rangefinder, you set ISO, aperture, and it chooses shutter speed (visible in finder!). It's a clamshell design, so it's well protected. I have one, plus an XA2 (XA is best; avoid XA1). Better yet, Blue Moon has an XA with detachable flash - I saw it there Saturday.

Theo, Zeb at BMC showed me his personal XA and I knew it was serious medicine. I've just not found them around lately & Zeb mentioned the shop was wanting alot for them. I hope to find one. 'Seems a serious tool disguised as a junky P&S.
BMC has one?! A week or so back they only had the 2 or later. I'll call tomorrow.

Theo, saw an XA on Amazon & ordered it. 'Hard to say if the seller knows an XA from XA1,2, etc. If it works, it'll be alot cheaper than what I was quoted. 'Looked for weeks for one & found nothing. 'Hope this one works.

Good luck with the XA! Hope it works for you better than the ones I've had. Also no luck with Minox 35. I am happy with Rollei 35T and 35S.
