Thank You AM!

That's a great deal considering that these lenses go for the better part of $100 on eBay (in admittedly better cosmetic condition).
That is a pre-AI lens but the optical design has remained fairly similar over the years. The only real difference, if memory serves, is that Nikon improved the multicoating sometime thereafter - maybe several times. I own the 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor-P and have been very satisfied with it. (That's another one of Nikon's razor blade lenses.)
I consider this one of the gold standard lenses in Nikon's stable. I own the newer AI-S variant and use it on both film bodies and a D750. It is a top shelf performer (though I'd be interested to know what "pretty clean" glass means).
What's your latest new old camera?
I picked up an Auto XTL with 55mm f1.4, 28mm ES and 135mm ES along with a Vivitar flash bracket and Vivitar 285HV flash from a local online auction for $23.00. Oh, and all the manuals too. The lenses are mint and the camera works perfect, but does have bracing showing through the black paint. Heavy outfit, but very good lenses for sure.A Mamiya Auto X1000 with a 55/1.8 ES lens. It will keep my Auto XTLs company. These cameras are heavy and do not have the brightest finders but the ES lenses are sharp and nicely made. The later NC1000/1000S and ZE cameras, which I also have, are not nearly as nice or as well made.
I have an old Praktica LTL with a Meyer Optik Gorlitz Oreston f1.8 in 42mm screw mount. The Oreston is a fine lens. BTW, my LTL is still in good working order, despite having been bounced off the sidewalk at least once. The Oreston has a slow diaphragm. Not a job I care to undertake.I'm more of a Medium Format kind of person, but my daughter found a Rolleiflex SL35 at an estate sale and bought it on the spot for me. It seems to be in PERFECT condition, all shutter speeds work, shutter curtain and lens diapraghm works perfectly fine as well. It came with a 50mm 1.8 lens and a Rolley electronic flash (which I haven't tested yet). Curiously there is a second 50mm f1.8 lens in the box it was sold in ("Meyer Optik Gorlitz - Oreston") but it has a different lens mount and therefore does not fit. FWIW the camera body was made in Singapore (not the earlier German manufacture), else my dad would surely have been turning in his grave - he was a BIG Voigtlander and Rolleiflex fan.
Switching to 35mm seems the obvious thing to do as I have developed spinal issues a few years ago and carting around 6X6 gear is likely not a good idea for me anymore.
A beautiful lllg with Leicavit from Japan. I'm just waiting on a chrome SLOOZ Leitz finder to round out the set-up.

Chuck i don't think any lens that's seen that much use will have absolutely pristine glass....but....i've got very fine images from such lenses.
