Sorry for your loss.
I have one camera - a Retina IIIc - that had been my father's. It is doubly special for me, because I gave it to him (used) as a gift, and then after several years, and before he died, he gave it back to me.
I gave it to him in the first place because I remembered him wanting one when he was a young father with young/teenage kids - including me - but not being able to justify the expense at the time.

My Olympus OM-1 is my newest old camera and my go-to. I switch between a 35mm f/2 or a 24mm f/2.8. Stopped buying new-old cameras, just using the ones I have.

Just discovered this site. Amazing information.

I added a 1990 era Pentax Z-1 to the collection this week. Two rolls in and it's turning out to be a really nice shooter. It does make me dream of Pentax doing a full SLR based on the Z-1P but with updated systems for focus and metering. A K-1 for film essentially. It's unlikely, but I can dream that they will though.

A lot of folks grumble about the menu system of the Z-1 but it's pretty straight forward. Scroll through it a couple of times and the few settings that you need are easy to remember. There are only 18 settings in total and about 6 of those are needed, with maybe 3 being something that you'd adjust from time to time. Everything else is set and forget. The viewfinder info is sparse and the early autofocus is not the best. Manual focus is a PITA with not much in the way of a focus aide in the viewfinder other than the 'in focus' icon and beep. That's not always accurate thought and doesn't work well with my wide angle lenses.

But, the camera is overall fun to shoot with the right lens and produces really nice results.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have my father's AE-1 that he bought back in the late 70's. Many of my photos of him from that time show him carrying that camera. Shooting it does bring him back for a bit in my mind.

A long story, but...my latest.... (not that i'm collecting)..... While planning a trip to Austin, I stumbled across a black Nikon F with a DE-1 pentaprism on the Precision Camera website..but it had the rectangular eyepiece (hard to find accessories). So glancing at Eb*y i came across this one.... round eyepiece and pre-1966 body w Nippon Kogaku imprint....recent service and pretty much a bargain at $175. I had it shipped to my friend at Collings Guitars and there i was in Austin with my Leica and a bare Nikon body. I drifted into Precision Cameras new location in NW Austin. Wanting a period lens, I found a clean Nikkor S 50mm f1.4 for $89. (A fine store w first class service BTW). The question now was if the camera worked as described....
A roll of Tri-X later I had the answer. A day after getting home I processed the film & printed. I used Fs & F2 many decades ago and their simplicity and ruggedness never let me down. The bonus is that i really like the character of the Nikkor S....especially up close. As good as subsequent Nikons were.... Auto focus.... Matrix metering... when everything is reduced to the most simple elements.... It's hard to beat the original Nikon F

Latest consequence of GAS, a Mamiya RZ67 with 110, 50 and 140mm lens, prism and a 6x7 back. Aside from that, a mint Beseler 23C II to be able to enlarge the 6x7, am I right!?

The Beseler only has a 35mm carrier, so if anyone in Europe has a 6x6 and a 6x7 holder, please DM me!

Just lucked into some freebies:

1) Canon A-1 (black) with Canon 50mm/1.8 lens

2) Canon 100mm/2.8 lens

3) Canon 28mm/2.8 lens

4) Fujica ST-605 + 55m/2.2 lens

I don't really need any more 35mm gear, but how could I say no?

Newest old camera is a functional Kiev 60 kit produced in 1987 (per serial Nr. ) from the Salvation Army auction website
and a recent purchase of a Flektogon 50mm F4 lens at a local camera show and a 20mm Minolta A mount lens.

Haven't had time to try using cameras or Ilford film and chemistry as I've been busy with chores before cold weather in the US sets in this week.

Not certain if I will try using the recently purchased blue Besseler enlarger purchased at a local Salvation Army store.

Thankfully, I purchased film carriers at a camera show in the 1990s before internet sales halted shows for three decades.

After dropping my silver Rollei 35 T at the playground (in the sandbox no less. Luckily it did recover...), I treated myself to a black 35 S.

I don't know what it is about these cameras but I've taken some of my best pictures recently with that 35 T; there's just something about it that works for me. I even shot it around the hospital, one-handed, with my newborn daughter on the other arm, working the advance lever with my teeth

Anyway, I got this black 35 S pretty cheap, so it of course had issues. Stiff focus, hazy viewfinder, slow speeds wonky etc., I had a look inside and after some fiddling decided that this was a job for a professional. I sent it to Herr Werner Bruer (Classic Fotoservice) who I assume is a former Rollei technician and who replaced the viewfinder with a (NOS) spare one, fixed everything else and recalibrated the light meter for 1.5V MR9 batteries. All for the low price of 100€. This was the first time I ever had a camera professionally serviced and I'm very pleased with the result.

Bought a Mamiya C220 to complement my C3. Now that 220 film is being produced by Reflx Lab, I wanted one that shoots it; which it does, and the C3 doesn't. Since I already have lenses, I bought the C220 body at a reasonable price, in very nice condition.

I've always loved the design of the Agfa Optima Sensor series, and this ever so conveniently popped up on our local auction site:




It's not much larger than my Minox 35GT with the lens out, but the viewfinder is enormous.

I have had an original Canon F1 for many years now. I just received my new to me Canon New F1. Camera is in really nice condition, look forward to getting a test roll through it. I find it odd that Tv mode does not work without the motor drive attached. The camera came with one, But I typically don't like the extra bulk, so I will leave it off. Manual and Av mode are fine with me.

Well like GregY I’d had a hankering for an early Nikon F for sometime and finally found a 1961 built one on eBay complete with the prism., but mine has the older square/rectangular viewfinder window also mines a panda rather than all black. It all seems good but I’ve yet to put a film through it.

Lovely! Reminds me of the flagship 1535 I supposedly "won" a number of years ago, but when the package arrived, someone had apparently absconded with the camera and replaced it with a random object.

Konica MR. 640, duel lens Weathers. Similar to the Olympus duel lens rain proof, and the Minolta Weathermatic, although the Minolta is much more robust. I have shot one of film, have not yet printed it, the negatives look good.

I just received this well-loved/well-worn 105mm f2.5. The focus and aperture ring are smooth and the glass is pretty clean. It looked to me like it had told many stories and still had some to tell.... for $45 it seemed worth the chance.

That's a great deal considering that these lenses go for the better part of $100 on eBay (in admittedly better cosmetic condition).

That is a pre-AI lens but the optical design has remained fairly similar over the years. The only real difference, if memory serves, is that Nikon improved the multicoating sometime thereafter - maybe several times. I own the 180mm f/2.8 Nikkor-P and have been very satisfied with it. (That's another one of Nikon's razor blade lenses.)

I consider this one of the gold standard lenses in Nikon's stable. I own the newer AI-S variant and use it on both film bodies and a D750. It is a top shelf performer (though I'd be interested to know what "pretty clean" glass means).
