Quite a lot of selenium meters can be made useful again simply by removing the cell and cleaning the spring contacts, then going over the contact points on the cell with a bit of rough cloth. The link mentioned steelwool, use this only if you want it to end up on the magnets within the meter movement - surprising how that stuff gets around. Be very careful not to remove any of the lacquer (? something clear) coating which protects most of the cell from the atmosphere, do this and it will die.

That's actually NOT true. I've worked on more than a dozen of these. Only one had a meter that couldn't be repaired. In all other cases, the meters were brought back to life.

As always, use care when working with your cameras. And compressed air should always be part of your arsenal to blow out any debris - including that created by you and what might already be in your camera.

My H2 is as smooth as my M3...

Mine isn't, but hopefully, mine will be as smooth as your M3 after a CLA. The shutter fired out of the box on the higher speeds, but jammed up when I tried a slow speed. But, as the camera is way too pretty to be a shelf queen, off for some professional care. Who is the best US Pentax guy?

Well, the Canon rangefinder I purchased arrived shortly after making my initial post to this very thread. Instead of being a IVSB, it turns out that it's actually a IIS2. Serial 192291 <E-P>. Somewhat rarer than the IVSB I would say. No complaints.

Send your Pentax to Eric to fix or refresh it is a great experience because there is nothing like a renewed original Asahi Pentax working as if factory fresh . . . :D

I was running a bit low on film cameras last week, but luckily, a friend gave me this rather nice Kodak Brownie Flash IV.

This is the deluxe model with a yellow filter and a close up lens. Each selected by pulling out one of the metal tabs on the side.

Speaking of renewed, I picked up a non-working Olympus Pen FT and sent it to the Olympus guy - John at Camtech and now it's as if factory fresh too . . . :D

It must be the UK version because it has a right left reversal.

Well, not really a "new" latest old camera, since I've owned it a couple times in the past. But, the last owner decided he didn't want it anymore, so I got a very good deal on it.

Now that I'm done with procuring bodies, I can direct my attention toward accessories and glass.

That's what we all say!

Steve.

That's true. As long as there's enough cash and the desire to do so. In my case, there really isn't, unless I want more bodies than lenses, which I don't. Besides, I have enough trouble deciding what I'm going to use on a shoot, with five film bodies.

Picked up a Minolta 7000 with a 50mm f1.7 ath the SA yesterday.

I bought it only for the lens but the body seems to be working correctly, test roll day!

There were a couple flashes (a Vivitar and a Focal) in the bag too. Might be time to put up all these extra flashes I have in the "Free Stuff" thread.

Here's an image of the Canon IIS2 that the vendor and I misidentified. Canon made these from Feb '55 to Jul '56; so it's neither new, nor very old. It's cameras like these that keep me using 35mm. The sample images here were scanned from the first test-roll which was developed in Dektol 1:2. The film was developed by wrapping it around a plastic 1 gallon jug and rotating it through the chemistry.

I was sent a very clean Fm2n in black with an almost as clean 50mm f/1.4 just recently. I've not had one this clean before so it's kind of neat to think that I'm going to be the one to brass it up

Now you just need an equally nice F3... ;-)

Just got a brand new Fuji Klasse W from japan exposures. Beautiful little thing, already tested and working great.
One problem though, never got the lens shade or battery. They say the shade doesn't come with the camera and costs about $50 extra. Sounds like BS, there's even room for it in the box.
May have to start a new thread to vent my disappointment.
Great camera though.
Cheers, Wojtek.
