Just put two rolls through my new-to-me Fuji Ga645. Loving this camera! Medium format, point and shoot. Good fun.

I just got a Kodak Retina IIa from ebay that appears to be in wonderful shape. The lens is absolutely gorgeous. I've been eying this camera for a while but they have always been a tad more than I wanted to spend for one in good condition. I feel I got lucky with this one.
I just loaded it with T-Max 100 and hope to find 24 points of inspiration so I can finish the roll quickly and develop it.

Nikon F5 - yowsers!

Just finished shooting my first roll of Delta 100 in my new, mint, Nikon F5.

Up to now, all my cameras are of the really old, all-manual, 1950s variety (Nikon F, Leica M3, Linhof Technika, etc) but I couldn't resist to find out wat shooting the most badass film Nikon of all time is like.

Despite the size and weight, it's an utterly remarkable, and most satisfying, piece of engineering. Truly impressive.
There isn't a single thing about it that doesn't impress. This must have been quite something in 1997

Can't wait to see how the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G compares to the rangefinder 50mm lenses I've been using... Autofocus is incredibly fast and silent.

A black Nikkormat FTN with a pre-Ai 105mm f2.5. Paid $40 for it with another camera that I sold for $50.

And last week walked into a Humane Society thrift store and walked out with a Tamrac bag with a Nikon N90s, MB-10, 28-70 f3.5-4.5 AFD, 70-210 f4-5.6 AFD and a SB-26 for $50.

Took a little motorcycle ride and found myself at a couple thrift stores in the area and found some decent bits:

Picked up a Fujica AZ-1 with the top plate missing screws and almost falling off, with a Tamron 28/2.5 Adaptall-2 on it (lens is pretty clean but glass is really nice shape) for $3.

Another place:
-Nikor 120 tank, mint in original old box, $2.95.
-Chinon 50mm f/1.9 K-mount, $6.95
-Chinon 28mm f/2.8 K-mount, $6.95

Another place:
Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 TX, TX:M42 adapter: $8.95
Yashica 50mm f/1.9 C/Y mount: $6
Pentax lens case that's in really nice shape but it's not labeled and it's too big for the 85mm so not sure what it fits: $2

I've become infatuated with small rangefinders. Love the look of the vitomatics, but wanted metering in the finder, and metering that worked with manual shooting, and wanted to spend "pocket cash" - well under a hundred.

Settled on the Minolta Hi Matics. Got a 7s for $25ish, but the lens was pretty scratched. Found another for $25. Cleaned both viewfinders and they both seem very nice, about to do some film tests. Metering agrees with my Sekonic handheld. Both need seals, no biggie.

My wife has a PhD (smarty pants) but zero photo training. But just using her phone, she has a simply amazing eye for composition, color, subject, juxtaposition - she's twice the photographer I am in many ways, so I wanted something she could have handy, take on her walks, load it up with slide film, maybe cross-process some, etc. So I showed the Minolta to my wife - she focused & framed a bit, and said "go get some film!"

Some moments, you realize you totally married the right girl.

Received this in the mail a few months ago. Was originally going to be sent to Sover Wong as a parts camera, but, he agreed to sell it to me for what he owed on it. So, will be sending him funds for it in a couple weeks. Camera normally is an F2AS, but, since my other F2AS is having its original DP-12 overhauled by him, I'm using the DP-12 from this body on it and have a DP-1 installed to keep the screen from getting dusty. It will be sent to him for servicing once the DP-12 finder is back in my hands.

Lens is another very recent acquisition, replacing 20/3.5 UD #435251 that I stupidly traded in on an F-36 motor drive back in 2010.

I just bought a very nice Minolta Maxxum 700si body. It's the newest Minolta for me, replacing a Maxxum 8000i. I already have all of the lenses I need for it. Test shoot with Tri-X this weekend I hope.

I just picked up a Nikon FM2 along with a 70-210mm f/4 Series E lens. I've not had a chance to put any film through it, but plan to shoot some tri-x soon.

An Olympus IS-1000

I'm currently putting a test roll through and finding it handles pretty well. Only complaint is the noise of the powered zoom!

Rarest of Yashica lenses with a Contax S2b

Two lovely items arrived today - a Yashica zoom and a Contax body.

One of my all-time favourite cameras has been the beautiful Contax S2b, the second of the two mechanically shuttered Contax 35mm SLR bodies (leaving the Preview/Preview II to one side for the moment) which offered average metering unlike the spot metering of the original S2. This is such a lovely camera to hold and use and maintains a very accurate 1:4000 top speed to this day. I regretted being forced to sell my previous one and am delighted to have one again.

Perhaps more interesting is a very rare beast, the Yashica ML 70-210 f4 lens. The ML f4.5 is highly regarded and the more common compact version, the MC f4.5, is a steady performer. When Yashica launched the ML range to complement the Carl Zeiss lenses for the Contax/Yashica system back in the late 1970s, its tele-zoom was the 80-200 f4 - a good quality lens though never a stellar performer that was introduced with the FR & FX-2 in 1976. Then, in December 1978 a new lens appeared in the guise of the 70-210 f4 but by 1980 it had completely vanished and the old 80-200 was back again.

The f4 70-210 is very reminiscent of the best 70-210 lens ever made - the Vario-Sonnar 70-210 f3.5 Macro for the Contax RTS. The V-S is a leviathan of a lens and has almost no distortion throughout its focal range, a constant maximum f3.5 aperture and a macro capability that defies belief - I've actually taken a perfect shot of a feather resting on a front filter! The Yashica is built to an identical quality - an all metal body weighing over 1kg and despite the huge number of elements and groups, no zoom creep at all. It lacks the Zeiss' macro facility but I grabbed a few shots today using a Fuji X-T1 using both the Yashica and Zeiss lenses and I can't tell them apart - even the edge definition of the Yashica is on a par.

There is no literature that I've been able to find on the Yashica lens (I can't even confirm whether it's a 14/9 or 14/10 construction which look the most likely options) and I can only assume it appeared in direct response to the Vario-Sonnar as more professionals started to adopt the Contax system (especially for sports work in the late 70s and very early 80s) but, like the Zeiss cousin, it was very expensive to manufacture. Within 2 years, both lenses had ceased production and were replaced by the rather lacklustre (by comparison) 80-200 lenses. In 1979, the ML 70-210 f4 cost the equivalent of around 1200 Euros at today's prices (the Vario-Sonnar: 2700 Euros) while the ML 80-200 was around 650 Euros.

It appears that only a few hundred 70-210 f4 lenses were produced which, given their quality, is a great pity; they seem impossible to find these days and I can't recall the last time I saw one for sale in top condition. If anyone out there has any more info on the Yashica zoom, I'd love to know a bit more about it....

A Zeiss 517/2 and a Kodak Retinette. Haven't put a roll thought the Kodak yet but the negatives from the 517/2 that are drying look really nice.

Kodak Duaflex IV, like the one we had when I was a kid. Don't be jealous. Will respool 120 film onto the 620 reels soon.

With the Ultron lens? I've always wanted one these...

No not the Ultron lens, but the Color Skopar, which is a great lens in it's own right, I have been looking for quite a while to find one, they seem to be scarce this side of the pond, at least in good usable condition, so when I found this I grabbed it with both hands,

Canon F-1n

Just received a Canon F-1n (2nd style) from KEH. I have wanted one of these for years, and finally got around to getting one. Hope to try it out this weekend. I don't think I will be disappointed. I continue to be impressed with the quality of used equipment from KEH.
