It was very reassuring to find at least one other person who felt the same way about the ae1 as I did: https://www.35mmc.com/20/10/2020/canon-ae-1-review-the-haters/

It’s not that the venerable AE-1 is a bad camera. Rather it was seemingly clinically derived by Canon to not cause any reaction in the human soul. Remember, the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s apathy.

I randomly stumbled upon an ae1 at a thrift store and picked it up because why not. I'd seen all the typical reviews of it being the camera for beginners, etc, etc so I figured it'd be a fun addition to the collection. I shot one roll through it, an experience that could be surmised as "yes, this is a camera" and it sat on the shelf for years untouched. Finally gave it away to a friend of a friend recently.

I lost interest in all digital camera review since around 2015, when all digicam becomes very good.

For analog camera reviews, I do like "Analog Insight" on YouTube.
