If I send them out for CLAs (which wouldn't be a bad idea anyhow), who should I send them to?

I have Mike, a Hasselblad authorized repair man, at Samys Camera in Los Angeles CLA my Hasselblad film backs.

I happen to know Douglas Fairbank is a Hasselblad tech with about 40-leven years in the business. Although I think he's in England. I don't know what shipping would be like. But if you want to avoid sending it to some boob, he'd be a good pick to do the job.

Samy's Camera is good, they actually sell old cameras and the store is very old school, it's one of the few places I visited when I went to California on a rainy day...

Since we're all guessing anyway, I'd look at the loose back as the culprit. If too loose, the drive gear
won't engage.
With that said, the backs are both held against the body itself by the two small hooks at
the bottom of the camera*.

* Pretty easy to adjust with a four pound machinists hammer. A sledge won't work, it's not a precision tool.

Thanks for the kind words Tom, I am in England and I can tell you that shipping is bad news. So I don't encourage anyone to ship to Europe if they have local support. What about Hasselblad in New Jersey or some of the independents in the USA that have a good reputation?
Always happy to help visitors of course.

Now if I could get away with hand delivering it, I'd be happy to have you work on it (that may cost close to shipping it). I'd love to get back to the UK when our currently chaotic schedule has calmed down - definitely my favorite place to visit so far. Thanks for all the help!

Make that part of the deal, call it "shipping and handling charge" to cover the plane ticket / travel expense  shouldn't cost much more than the VAT anyway...
