Heard a rumour Kodak was working on some colour negative film aside from what they doing with Ektar and their release of the 5x4 format OR maybe that they tweaking it (Ektar) to work better with skin tones?????????????.....dunno.....I would like to hear if anyone knows anything if we are to expect something cool from Kodak in the shape of colour negative film?

My wish list? Portra to be made EVEN BETTER THAN IT IS with technology from its colour negative films for Hollywood!!!!! heh heh heh so a third generation Portra thats like the best colour negative film on the planet!

Reliable sources[yeah, like they really exist!] tell me that Kodak and Fuji carefully monitor the APUG posts to determine which film to kill next that will get the greatest reaction out of the fewest APUGgers.

The chances are zero but I'd love to see Kodak make a B&W transparency film like the old Agfa Dia-direct. Mono slides are amazingly evocative.

Eeerie.... http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/films/portra/400main.jhtml?pq-path=2987

And blockend, were you aware of this new film? What are you referring to when you say the "chances are zero"?

How do you know that the replacement will be "even better"?

Sounds like a business decision to me: make one instead of two, in a difficult market.

That "even better" part isn't important... it's the fact that he mentions Vision technology and Portra in the same breath, and that was 4 months ago.

oh, no. sorry  color film, negative (check out the link)

However, any monochrome film can be processed as a slide.

"Vision technology" (dye layering) was already incorporated in 400NC and 400VC just a year or two ago; after EKTAR 100. Please see my previous posts in this thread with link to their press release about the change.

Many if not most BW films can be reversal processed to obtain very good slides. This is what Agfa Scala was, it was just optimized for that. Kodak even has/had a home processing kit for this! So, there's no need to produce special film for that.

I know what you mean; you're talking about the prediciton.

But let's not lose our grip on reality: not important???

Ok, it's definitely important if it's better, but what really matters is that clearly this man is a sooth-sayer!
