A trio of neglected items in a box full of cameras at a thrift store: Tokina Rmc 17mm f/3.5 (for Nikon), dusty but perfectly usable; a really dirty Nikon FG with signs of amateur repair (it's missing some screws and the focus screen had been installed upside down after a VERY thorough and permanent cleaning); and finally a dirty 105mm f/1.8 Nikkor (!) with stiff focus. Grand total: $50US.

That's a good score!

It seems I won a local auction for a Widelux F7 (about $ 450).

I didn't think I would get it - but I made an bid this afternoon since I've always wanted one of those.
I've seen some amazing images from this type of camera with swinging lens.
I hope it really is in very good shape & working order (as promised).

It arrived and it's looking good. As far as I can see no banning problem either.
Only sticky foam (as expected) so I'll clean it first. Especially the foam near the lens (circled below) and some residu on the rollers.

It really is a nice piece of machinery. I really like it. And the swinging lens is a great feature.
He probably also has a filter set, that he'll sell/send me next week when he is back from a trip.

A fun camera.

a Stouffer 21 step xmission wedge.
it cost me $17 (about £11) delivered direct from the manufacturer in TX to my door in the UK.
If I'd bought it from a UK supplier, it would have been over £22 (say about $35)

Alright! That's bound to be a wise purchase. I bought one in 1976 and have been using it ever since...

A Yashica TL Electro with a Helios 28mm f2.8. The woman in the shop said there was something else with it but I'd have to come back. I went back the next day and the man there got a case and a Yashinon-DS 50mm f1.9 from a box which contained an Olympus OM20, a Praktica MTL?, a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar DDR 50mm f2.8, a Tamron 135mm AD2 with M42 mount, a 28mm f2.8 Pentacon, a zoom and a Cobra flash that looked to be dedicated to EOS. All in two camera bags. He said I can have the lot for 20 pounds. The OM20 still has working batteries in it.

He told me they get quite a few cameras and that students often buy them. He said he sold one for 10 pounds and the lad came back bragging that he'd got 500 pounds on eBay for it. It was a Leica. If it had been me I would've kept it, but if I had sold it I would have given something to the shop, 10% or something.

A pair of replacement 5000-mAh/40-amp NiMH battery packs for my Sunpak TR-Pak-IIa external power pack, and a smart charger to go with them. This external power pack works with my Sunpak 544, 622S, and 120J units. The charger will also recharge the original Sunpak CL-Pak-IIa NiCad battery pack.

For anyone reading who may also be looking for replacements, I purchased these items here: Maxxpacks.com

Lately I got a couple of lenses that use 55mm filters, so I've been hunting for filters in that size. Found a polarizer from an APUG member and a #15 deep yellow one on Ebay.

My 80+ year old neighbor moved to a care home and her family collected her stuff before selling off the rest. Among the stuff that was left was an old folding Comet camera that I paid too much for but it was a spur of the moment thing. $25 is still not a whole lot of money. Turns out it's a US Camera Corp Comet. It's a simple folding camera that takes 620 film (has a pair of empty spools) in pretty good shape. There's no aperture adjustment and only two speeds on the manual shutter: B and 1/30 seconds. The bellows looks to be in great shape so I really just need to get some 120 film, trim the plastic roll, then start taking photos with it. The meniscus lens appears to be clean.

Since this camera's shutter was so limited on speeds I took a look at eBay and, again, on a whim, bought an old Franka Rolfix folding camera last night. It appears that the back is not attached to the camera body so some minor repairs are expected. Can't wait to get this one. Worst comes to worst, I can remove the lens and adapt it to other cameras in my collection.

Don't trim the 120 roll. The spindle on 120 film is fatter than that of the skinnier 620 roll.
Just re-roll the 120 film into one of the 620 spindles and keep it wound tight. There should be a burble (excess) in the film which you will release and then tape it down with a bit of masking tape.

Thanks for that. I'm aware of the re-rolling procedure and technique, but, figured the trimming was the easier way to go plus I don't need to worry about introducing dust or fingerprints to the momentarily exposed (in a dark bag) film since I'd have to do it twice.

Something else that I had considered was to machine a spool to receive 35mm film and to use this camera that way. I'd definitely make a mask to reduce the frame width to something smaller like 60mm.

thanks Bill.
I thought it might speed up/make easier/make a bit more objective evaluation of different papers/sizing/coatings/etc for my exploration of alt-printing.

Plus, I suppose I can use it to calibrate the Agfa/Intercop D103 densitometer that I got thrown in with a couple of Repromaster lenses? (and which I have no idea how to use - the D103, not the lenses:smile:)

pdeeh,

That's probably the best use of it, for evaluating unknown emulsion that you make yourself.

Start a thread on the densitometer, I am sure the gang can figure out how to use it.

My latest purchase(s)... an Ohaus balance (that I need weights for. I'm thinking of just weighing a strip of aluminum, and cutting it to make 100 mg pieces)... Film (now I add to my order to give my daughter some film to shoot)... Some chemicals for a superproportional reducer from the formulary... A roll of ortho litho film to maybe do a resolution test with... I passed on a Kenco fisheye but might still go back for it (so I could pretend to be Bill Brandt)... and Hold Still by Sally Mann because the teaser from Google and Amazon wasn't enough to satisfy my craving to know more about this interesting woman (and photographer).
