Stone:
I think you are running into the same problem that I just recently started encountering.
Traditionally, the sleeving material that labs used fit film quite closely. The Ultima pages are designed for that sleeving material. Until very recently, every film I got back from the labs I use fit the Ultima pages nicely.
Without warning, it seems that the labs I use changed sleeving material. That new sleeving material is too big to fit into the Ultima pages.
It may be that the labs were forced to change. One person I know in the industry mentioned to me that the sleeving material they had used for years was no longer available.
Hmm that is a problem, but not mine.
I actually don't use sleeving material in my sleeves as their sleeves themselves, I know that many people like to do that as it reduces scratching, but I've never had any scratches on any of my thumb and I don't see a point in starting to use those extra additional sleeves now.
My problem is actually that print file themselves have terrible quality control in multiple times I've had issues with their sleeves, I always order directly from them rather than going through B&H Photo or another place like that, but I think maybe I'm going to start because it seems like when I order direct from them I get a crap order that with manufactured poorly, sometimes the holes were in the wrong place so they didn't fit in the binders that they themselves sold me as well, if you notice they recently made some of the holes oval in shape, that's totally because of my complaints I'm sure about it not fitting, however they would tell me that it fit on there and and so they couldn't see what the problem was, well why would they change the size of the hole and shape of the hole if there was no problem?
The problem I'm specifically talking about is the fact that the actual hole where you slide the film into the sleeve itself, was not cut properly, so half the time I can't use the second or third strip at all because it's not cut the seal is unbreakable without actually using an X-Acto knife to cut open the edge, it looks really rowdy and it could probably scratch my phone more then otherwise if it were working properly. Here is an image so that you can see what I'm talking about.
As you can see, the plastic is all tore up at the edge there, that's because the material is so thick the exact a knife does not cut a nice clean edge but instead cuts ready edge and I kind of basically just have to rip it, this seems to happen every other page and it specifically in the same spot the second and third strips. I called them about it and they said they had no such issue and they refused to take a refund on my sleeves.
