Today, I made a trip to one of my favourite thrift shops to see if there were any new old cameras and found a plastic container full of rolls.
I snagged 11 rolls of expired Fuji Pro 400H 36exp (July 2007) for 17$CAD

I’m leaving on a motorcycle trip from NM, to CO, UT, WY, MT, ID, NV, back to UT, AZ, and back to NM. Leaving in a couple of weeks, so I ordered enough film for the trip. 10 rolls of Velvia 50, 10 rolls of Ektar 100, in addition to the Fomapan 100 and Portra 160 I already have. I haven’t figured how much to pack yet, but these are for my Bronica ETRSi, so 15 shots per roll. I’m thinking 15 rolls total, 225 total frames, but if space isn’t an issue, it may make sense to take more than I need.

Almost a month ago, I bought 20 rolls of Acros in 120 format from Kumar. They arrived two days ago and went to the fridge.

I also bought four Hewes reels for 35mm film, which are on their long way from USA to Brazil.

A Mamiya 7 from a fellow Photrio member. I had owned one previously but sold it earlier this year to purchase a Hasselblad. Tried something different but just prefer what I had before.

A very nice bargain pricedc 127mm f4.7 Yashica-Yashinon lens, a bit rarer than the 127mm f4.7 Ysarex along with a higher top speed for the \sekosha-SLV shutter.

Some Hp5+ and Fomapan 200 in 120 from Stills Gallery in Edinburgh (they also stock Fp4+ in 4x5, so respect to them for that!)-well worth a visit if you're in Auld Reekie.

A very clean Minolta XK from a forum member. I had one years ago and I've always kinda regretted selling it.

Less exciting was two packages of D-76 but still a purchase nonetheless.

Screaming good deal on a Nikon EL2 from a local dealer. Everything but the bottom plate is mint. I found a replacement on eBay, and it's on its way.

Quite a camera for only one year production. Has a lot of features of the FE, FE2, and FM, but was probably obsolete around the time it was introduced. Still, this one is a keeper. It's really a Nikkormat in size and design. It will go perfectly with my FT3's.

While all that is true... there is nothing wrong with having cameras as a hobby within the realm of photography. If all I were interested in were good photographs, artistically and technically, then my first cameras, a Pentax SP500, Leica M3, and Hasselblad 501C, would've been more than sufficient and there would be absolutely no reason to buy another camera.

Perhaps because I'm an engineer, I've always been interested in the features, functions, and ways other cameras operated. I liked the feature-rich, rugged, reliable Nikon F2, the program modes of the Leica R's, the shape of the SRT-101, the viewfinder of the F-1N, the no-nonsense practicality of the RB67, the esoterica of the Exakta VX, just to name a few.

Occasionally a photo-friend will tell me a different camera or a different lens might have been more appropriate for a scene or situation. But in real life I have never encountered a single amateur photographer who stated that their photos would be better if they had better equipment. I don't know where that comes from, but I see it only on the internet.

With the heat and humidity bearing down on NYC a little earlier than usual this year, I finally broke down and bought a small film fridge.
I put it off for years, trying to convince myself that I didn't need it. Nope... I need it.

Another Fujinon W 180/5.6 from Japan. The third one I’ve bought, but this is the old single coated model with the bigger image circle, 305 mm. I actually purchased these three for the shutters, this one was $103 including shipping.

That's what I learned when I "graduated" from my Praktica LTL to a Pentax MX and then very soon a Pentax LX. No more kvetching about gear!
