I have had the chance to buy a good Canon Demi more than once and I did not like the finish, when comparing it to even the competing Olympus models.

Definitely different. By the way, "voskhod" means "rising" (noun) or, commonly, "sunrise" [ восход солнца" ], there's also "moonrise" [ восход луны ].

I was totally unaware of this camera. Yes, very, very unconventional.

(Though as with many other cameras I doubt it holds well. But I shall see. One day...)

Gosh that's really stretching my memory. I don't recall the exact process but it involved aiming at a uniform white scene which I measured the Ev on, verifying what f/# and exposure I should get, then adjusting the aperture/exposure rings. If I remember correctly, they're secured in a type of clutch assembly, so you can loosen the rings, adjust, and re-tighten. Sound familiar?

Yes, we're both on the same page then. I've done that myself.

Never mind that they've trimmed the cable release socket and flash terminals away, this is all about looks, right? Just watching the top video makes me want to learn to build gorgeous presentation boxes like Hermes, and the leather doesn't look too shabby either.

It's a rare (just 59.000 made) Soviet camera made between 50's & 60's.... One of the most original either as design or the way it works (the lever above the lens cocks the shutter and advances the film & film counter). It's a way Russian showed the ability to make self-designed cameras after year passed copying Zeiss, Contax & Leica models...... Mine is in very good condition (except for a little problem to the blades which is being fixed by a repairer) and I saw some shots made by a friend which seems very impressive....

I thought the kit included the Leica?

The Bantam has long been one of my favorites, however impractical they might be to use these days. I want to have a collection of Art Deco cameras just to sit on the shelf. The Bantam, the Flexaret, and the viewmaster stereo cameras are very much my style.
