What kind of camera "back" is this?

I found for sale on the internet a stereo camera that haves this "back". Why it was so big and what kind of photosensitive medium did you put there: glass plate, sheet film, filmpack?

I would guess it's a multiple exposure back for glass plates. Each time the cassette gets cycled a new plate is brought into position. Is there some sort of springy mechanism inside the back?

The eBay listing says it's 6x13 cm, and camera-wiki says it's a 12-slot plate magazine.

And can I put a rollfilm adapter?

Those were glass plates, they came in boxes, and were loaded in a "cartridge" which allowed to take 10 or 12
My grandfather had one (Verascope) and I have seen the results, 45x107mm plates , but never saw it working and only on a shelf

they were also used on heidoscop and rolleiscop stereo cameras. there are roll film adapters that fit on those two instead.

original. the camera was made fot glass plates, the roll film back came a bit later.

The typical plate backs for these cameras were much more popular back in those days. Therefore I bought such a camera with a plate back and 3d printed a roll film back that works like a charm:
