I have read all about how Catlabs X80 was supposed to be similar to the old Panatomic X. I did a test and a video on it myself, and the results showed that wasn't really the case after evaluating it. It didn't even develop the same when I did a roll of Panatomic X in the same tank.

So once again they are touting the Pan X reference, but with this new X80 MkII version in sheets. What makes this new film a Mark 2, and what is different about it, compared to Mark 1? I had issues with rolls of 120 of this stuff with the original version, with the paper not staying tight when winding. Some even said the X80 film was just GP3, but maybe slightly modified?

No clue, but I've got some boxes and was planning to generate some characteristic curves in the next couple of days. I won't be comparing it to any other film, as I wouldn't know what to compare it to. I've never used Pan X as it was long gone before I got into photography. Some say Type-55 uses Pan X, and I may do a side by side comparison, but I certainly don't want to waste what I have... and it ain't much! Also, I don't have any Mark I. At any rate, my wife said it's her favourite film, as she loves the logo (she's a cat lover) 😄

Andy. I have some 4x5 sheets of old Panatomic X here if you want to try a few sheets to test. But I think you're using 8x10, not 4x5 for this test?

Actually I'll be using 4x5. How many sheets do you have? How's the base fog? I heard that this film ages well.
By the way, I have 5 sheets of CatLabs hanging to dry. I made some step wedges. Once they dry, I'll read them and plot curves (I loathe doing this but I feel it's necessary as you can really see its bone structure). I'd like to field test some sheets asap... Looks like there may be a break in the weather on Wednesday, so it could happen right after school.

My pleasure! I'm really hoping it'll be a contender for Alt printing. If it is, I'll be buying some 8x10 sheets!

Andy. I have two boxes of 10 Pan X I could spare a few sheets from. I havent used any of either box yet, so I don't know if they are any good or not. Next time we meet up I'll give you some sheets. You could do a comparison video. My last video didn't go in depth as much.
